Teen gets 20 years for gang rape of woman, son

The 16 years old agreed with the 20 years sentence and willing to testify against the other teenagers..

Yes because his lawyer advised him to do to aviod life sentence.

Even if they get lesser sentence

No, I never say that they should get less sentence. I only said in first thread that I don't agree with judge's sentence and treat teenager as an adult because teenager should get the help. He is too young to face the crime which mean is they should being sent to secure home (physical home/home for youth crime) to train their behavior like what Jillo stated in her post #21. I don't care how many years the judge decide for youth crimes but not sentence them to share with volience adult where they will learn bad example from them when they are out of jail.

it doesn't solve what they did to this poor family, they forced their way into the woman's apartment raped her, force her to perform oral sex on her son, making him have sex with his mother in front of them, tortured and brutally beaten them both and they also poured household cleaning liquids into son's eyes, I can not understand how a teenager this young would commit such a horrible crime but sadly some people will only begin to "think" when it happens to them or their loved ones....I know they're kids who made a terrible mistake but they are old enough to know what is right and wrong but they choose to commit such a horrible crime that will effect the rest of their lives...

Yes, I did said in my previous post that they did is definitely sick. Yes, it's abnormal what and how they did to mother and son. They deserve to receive punishment for that but sent them to jail is wrong but secure home for youth crimes.

I can see something wrong with their family background how and why they enjoy hate and cruelty when they have no love in their life.

Some teenagers are being abuse by their parents? It could lead mentaility about sex...and hurt victim. It need to be stop.

All what I want to say is my feel for the mother and son and hope they will find peace and happiness again. I know it takes them a long time to recover it. :(

I prefer for him to be in the prison for 20 years. He will be 36 years old when he will come out of the prison. It's because he knows the difference between right and wrong. It is a common sense for two rules for do and don't.

He admitted that he crossed the line because he broke the common sense rule.

It is more likely that he would be out of the prison when he would be about 27 years old for a good behavior. His name will never be removed on his criminal record after he is out of the prison.

Liebling:))) is right. It won't solve anything. Most prisoners teach new prisoners to learn bad things and repeat their crimes when they are freed.

Send them to secure home for Youth crime is good solution than to prison because it teach positive in youth crime than prison.

10 teenagers?? And only three been charged? And only one teenager linked to the crime through fingerprints? So total of 4 teenagers? Good God. What in the world is wrong with those teenagers??

I do hope they find the rest of those teenagers, they should face the same equal crime doesn't matter if they weren't involved with the gang rape, they should have reported it to the police as soon as they saw what happened, but they decide not to, so they are not as innocent as the ones that did the beating and raping of the woman, and the beating of the son.

what you want for this kid to do?

You want him to not serve time in prison.
Because he is too young to go to prison...
he can go back on the street and think he can get away with it again because he is still young.

You think he will go seek counseling... what if he show up
at counseling office and just don't talk and then decide
to not show up again at counseling office.

They will get in secure home for youth crime. They are stricter and will train youth to be obey and respect. If they disown the rule then they will add on their sentence. They training hard to positive their behavior and learn volience from prison.

You think those teenagers shouldn't get 20 years in prison?

Please re-read my post carefully. I said that I disagree to send youth to prison where adult are around because it will teach youth to be volience when they are out of prison.

That's crazy Liebling and PuyoPiyo

Don't say case you will say no more when you learn what happened to them after 20 years time.

What about the rape victims.... mother and son, they will be so scare for the rest of their life. Won't trust anyone. Will have mental breakdown.
And also will have nightmare every night.

They won't live a normal life.

*nodding sadly* That's why they need cousnelling to help to solve their nightmares. :(

More likely they're released due to overcrowding in the prison system.

But women victims rarely get the justice they deserve from the legal system. In a way, women from everywhere are still second-class citizens.

However, I agree with the majority of the posters on this sentence. They deserve it plus more. I just hope they won't be paroled anytime before 20 years is up.

There was a recent case in Sydney where there were a group of teenage rapists (about 10 or so) who gangraped a young girl (aged 14 or so). Most of them were sent to prison for 15-20 years. Hefty sentence, indeed, but it sends out a message to the community, one can hope.

They have different law for youth crime and adult crime in most EU countries and Canada.

They send teenagers to secure home for youth crime depend on judge's decision how long they will sentence.

*reading the article where angel provided*

Unbelievable... 10 teenagers between 14 and 18 years old... :ugh3: Oh my dear!!!!

What upset me the most is what I'm hearing from some of her neighbors, and why no one came to help them or called the police....Read the part where her neighbor Paticiea Matlock says about this...At Fla. housing project, rape just another crime - Crime & courts - MSNBC.com It does sadness me to see that some of their neighbors do not care what this mother and her son went through...

Oh my Lord, I cannot believe this one neighbor says "So a lady was raped, big deal," she said. "There's too much other crime happening here." She has no heart! I'm so glad I don't live near where those bunch of cold heart neighbors live, they won't even help anyone who's needs emergency assistance.

I read 2 page from another link, Angel provided to quote Bear's post.

Oh my dear... I cannot beleive that woman who think rape is nothing... oh my dear...

So what are you suggesting? Foot massages?? back rubbing treatments? I'm sorry I don't see the needed of special treatments for those sick freaks who did the most horrific crime to both the mother and son.

Don't say case you will say no more when you learn what happened to them after 20 years time.

They should thought about that before committing a crime, some of them are near the age of 18 knows from right and wrong and decides anyways to committed a crime. Justice needs to be served.

Huh? You think secure home for youth crime is a luxury spa or what? Right? No, they are total different as spa clinic. Secure home for Youth crime is similar as prison but it's for youth/teenagers only. They are stricter and need to training very hard. It teach them to positive their behavior, physical, mental ill, etc not prison. It will teachs them to be volience to hurt more victims in the future when they (youth/teenagers) share with adults in prison.

Do you mean it's okay for the youth/teenagers to repeat their crime after 20 years where they are being taught from prison? It's scary thought what happend to soon to be victims when they are out of prison after 20 years sentence.

Anyway, you know some teenagers/youth suffer ill mental and don't have any positive to learn to correct their behavior.

What's your suggestion how to positive their behavior? Is it good for them to learn from adults in prison? Would it teach them to positive thru their negative manner, volinece, etc.? Is it help youth/teenagers to learn their lesson?

You mean Juvenile detention facility? Yes for those who are under the age of 14, not those who are 17 or 18 years old, they're almost the adult legal age, and they should be with the adults in prison, but those who are under the age of 14 should be going to the Juvenile detention facility. This is what I agree, But I don't agree that all those ten teenagers should be sent to the Juvenile detention facility.

Do you mean it's okay for the youth/teenagers to repeat their crime after 20 years where they are being taught from prison? It's scary thought what happend to soon to be victims when they are out of prison after 20 years sentence.

How would u know they will most likely repeat the same crime? it depends how much they're suffer in prison, and most likely won't want to ever go back there again. I know for matter of fact that the prosecutor will not want to appear to be soft on crime and will usually seek the harshest sentence depends on what type of violent crime it was committed. Those teenagers boys have done far the worst I've ever read, and I would not even care if they get the harshest sentence or should be sentenced as an adult. They're old and wise enough to know better, but decide anyways to do it beyond their thinking minds when they know it's wasn't right.

20 years of jail time for 16 years old guy is much appreciate because he's already ruined his life, that is really final to ruin his life because he will be registered sexual offender after 20 years of jail time, plus would have limited of privacy due much source of information on online in anywhere.

It's too late for him to make choice if want attempt into rape but he should think about at first place before everything are happen, registered sex offenders don't have more freedom as normal people does.

That's awful!

Also, did you notice the two little boys in the picture with that neighbor? What are they hearing? They hear their mother say that raping a woman is no big deal. What does that teach her sons? That's it's OK for them to rape women?

That neighbor better hope that she never finds herself in the same situation as that other poor lady. Maybe her neighbors won't help her.

Such a terrible situation. :(

I don't think I'd like those rapists sent to the same facility with other young men and boys. Just think what could happen. Ugh!

They will get in secure home for youth crime. They are stricter and will train youth to be obey and respect. If they disown the rule then they will add on their sentence. They training hard to positive their behavior and learn volience from prison.
How do they train them? What methods do they use? What kind of discipline is used to enforce obedience and respect? Has there been long-term follow-up to determine if this "training" makes life-long changes?

Just curious.

What about the rape victims.... mother and son, they will be so scare for the rest of their life. Won't trust anyone. Will have mental breakdown.

They won't live a normal life.

I don't disagree with that. You are misunderstanding my posts.

And my question is, is he remorseful for his horrendous acts, or is he remorseful over getting caught? Two quite different situations!

Good points Jillio, but we can't decide that for the teen, he can only decide that for himself. Whatever sentence he serves - he's going to be a hardened criminal by the time he gets out, and when he does there's few resources he can use to get his life back on track - but he can make the most of what he's got left he chooses to, but it has to start with himself and no one else.

I say while in prison he needs to get his GED and work on a two year college degree if possible (some prisons offer educational programs, some dont). When he gets out and starts looking for work, he's going to have to start from the bottom of the totem pole because right now, he's the bottom of the barrel type, no high school diploma, convicted sex offender, recently served prison time for his crimes, and no prior job history. He'll end up a poultry processor worker likely, while he's getting his money and life together, he needs to seriously invest into completing a 4 year degree online or by correspondence - remember he's a convicted sex offender he will not be allowed to set foot on any campus property across the US- if he does, he goes back to jail. Then slowly as he proves himself to be a hard worker thats trust worthy enough to get the job done, he might be able to work his way to better jobs such as a technician of some sort for the poultry company, or might even become a unit supervisor, or do some office work in human relations depending on what his educational background is and what his strongest skills are. But he'll never be trusted enough to be a complex manager or the main boss of any company. After so many years of staying clean and out of trouble he might be able to drop his sex offender rating to least likely to reoffend, but it'll never come off his record. The assault charges might come off for the beatings, but for the sexual acts, never.

But even then after all is said and done, he'll be well into his 40s or even 50s before he can get a decent job. His retirement checks are going to be awfully small compared to others his age, and when he's 70 years old and having to take meals on wheels he's going to realize that a few hours of 'fun' for him and his friends have really cost him everything he ever wanted in life.

As you said Jillio, is he remorseful for what he's done, or is he remorseful for having gotten caught? I guess we'll find out when he's released in a few years.
