I was in Target and check out some movies on shelves, all VHS movies are gone for good and replaced into DVD, HD-DVD and even BD movies. Best Buy and Circuit City already ceased all VHS movies in 2002 or 2003 but I asked employee at Wal-Mart about what final date for cease all VHS movies then they will said phase all VHS out by end of year because they need enough shelves to add HD-DVD and BD movies but BD movies don't release at Wal-Mart yet, around by end of year.

Here wal mart and others still have VHS :) didnt remove cause some ppl who cant afford rather cheaper I guess :)

Well, we knew this would happen - I plan to keep my VCR for taping television shows, but I've already started buying DVD movies to replace my old VHS movies... will give them away when Ive got them all. They do save room!

The only problem is ... we gotta replace so many!

Well, DVD movies are getting more cheaper but resolution is much better than VHS.

Me too!

I knew it too because more and more people buying DVD than VHS. We still have VCR! I'll ask my mom what to do with it because it is belong to her! Mine already donated to woman shelter. DHB's vcr is somewhere in the house...and probably it will have to go too.

VHS are getting dead!!! But I still keep it just in case...

Good bye VHS. I dont have them anymore. DVD is much better for storage purpose.

Now will blu-ray be successfully .....

Well, the local Wal-Mart stores here carry both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs.

Update...

Wal-Mart is already ceased all VHS movies and replace into twin or triple pack of DVD movies, also I saw alot of boxes that all VHS are in after took all of them off from shelves. I guess that almost none of stores are sell VHS movies.

Not at most location for HD-DVD, some do but BD is carrying at all Wal-Mart but only find in gaming section, that where PS3 is located.

Best Buy have ALOT of HD-DVD and BD movies, that one reason because I love to shopping at Best Buy.

YAY! I glad they stop selling all VHS movies! I love DVD! It's best
technology ever in my life. :dance2:
Good bye VHS forever!
I won't buying VHS unless... um, it's only for interesting movies-- nothing.
Let's forget about VHS, move on with my DVD!

It is too expensive..I thought Amaon.com is cheaper price. Most likely $22 bucks avg.

Since most of my movies are in DVS, it's fairly rare that I've watched or owned a movie in DVD. WGBH, a major describer over here, only offers it's movies in VHS. Audiovision has DVD, but they've got a limited selection of only older movies.

That said, I can understand getting rid of VHS. They degrade over time, which is unfair to the person buying it.

At Wal-Mart, VHS movies are cost at $2.50 or more but all are gone.

I can image Al Bundy (from Married..with Children) grumpy about the changes. He STILL has the BETA (first type of video taping prior to VHS)! "Hey Peggy, what is this now they are changing!?" Then gives that look. "Peggy, now people are giving away VHS. I am going to check garage sales to buy a 10 buck VHS machine and get all that movies." Peggy replies, "Oh that is great, Al." Al departs to look for that working VHS and VHS movies to replace his aging BETA machine.

Hahaha!!

I know what you all feel. Hated to replace system but glad you do not need to rewind. I have a bunch of VHS I taped and some VHS movies I am replacing. Already replaced the entire Star Wars collection, and Jackie Chan movies (a few). But just a couple of others I should have bought DVD back in 02 when I received the DVD player as a gift. My first DVD movies happened to be "Back to the Future" DVD set (all 3 movies plus 20 hours of outtakes, errors, goofs, and more) and that DVD set was my prize from Universal Studios/USA Network sweepstakes. I WON that 3 in 1 package DVD set!!! I said to myself when I won it, I said, "GREAT SCOTT!!!" then I saw that I won the Back to the Future set! LOL!!! Now I have over 125 movies and 1 tv series (LOST).

I recalled when a woman who was a representative for a DVD company who was at now defunct AMES replacing VHS with DVDs and then I told her I dont like replacing them since I bought movies and now you want me to repurchase it again??

NOW, the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray whatever that is are coming out and MUST I replace again!!!!!!????? SCREW those companies and I am sticking with DVD for life. If they decide to stop making DVDs and use other formats, I am done with purchasing. They NEED TO STOP SCREWING US AND STICK WITH ONE FORMAT FOR LIFE!!! That is why I want Apple Computers to change to PC format as well! We need ONE universal format for each electronics! There, now I am like Al! LOL!! Wink!

I have over 200 VHS movies. Perhaps, some of you would like to buy them from me? ;)
