Just found a transcript on Blackberry with Barbara Walters:

WALTERS: How are you going to get along without your Blackberry?

OBAMA: (Laughs). This is a problem. I, you know, one of the things that I'm going to have to work through is how to break through the isolation ... the bubble that exists around the president. And I'm in the process of negotiating with the Secret Service, with lawyers, with White House staff ...

WALTERS: You might have a Blackberry?

OBAMA: Well, I'm, I'm negotiating to figure out how can I get information from outside of the 10 or 12 people who surround my office in the White House. Because, one of the worst things I think that could happen to a president is losing touch with what people are going through day to day.

Barbara Walters Obama Interview On ABC

I hope Obama gets to keep Blackberry because this may make a groundbreaking precedent for Presidency. Modernizing the American President to 21st century.

Looks like its gonna be a big time job for RIM. They now better start working with the NSA to develop the Presidential Edition Bold. If I were President Obama, I would pick the Bold over the 8830, Pearl, Curve, Javelin Curve and Storm.

I knew its hard for President Obama to give up his BB. It's a good thing his stubborness is finally dragging the Presidency to the 21st Century. At least he wants to still keep in contact with the world outside of the Oval Office. This will help him react swiftly to current events happening around the world.

... This will help him react swiftly to current events happening around the world.
Huh? It's a pretty sorry situation when the President of the USA needs to depend on a BlackBerry in order to "react swiftly to current events happening around the world."

Maybe he should also get his daily briefings from Wikipedia?

NOT!

what's wrong with obama having access to his blackberry during his time in office? as another poster said earlier, it's a sign of the presidency being modernized for the 21st century. and that can only be a good thing, imo.

I don't think Obama will have time with computer and blackberry at all.. you know why? take a look at what kind of toll it takes on President of United States

bush_before_after.jpg

it's a pix of President Bush from 2000 and 2007 - the before and after picture. Before - Bush's got black hair and looks youthful. Now he's just a cranky old fart with white hair and lot of wrinkles.

It looks like he is having effects of meth! :laugh2:

I knew that She Won’t Be Giving Up Her Blackberry! Once She Go Black...She Never Go Back! :naughty:

The President has access to world information that is much further beyond BlackBerry technology, believe me. If he really had to depend on his BlackBerry for up-to-date world news we would be in a world of hurt.

Also, information is a two-way street. The President shouldn't want to compromise security just for his own convenience.

how is obama compromising security by using a blackberry?

BlackBerry is not a secure transmitter or receiver.

Commercial phones aren't secure enough. The White House (on Pennsylvania Ave., and on the road) communications officer and the Secret Service know what's required, and Obama should trust their expertise.

The President should put security above personal preference.

if obama's blackberry were guarded at all times, i don't see what the problem is.

how do you guard against wireless transmission? Ever read news about Chinese's cyber attacks? If they can do it, imagine what the sophisticated, high-tech, well-funded terrorist organization can do with Obama's blackberry... especially tracking him down and gathering sensitive/classified information from his BB.

You do not have to hurt Obama directly but thru his people.

terrorists could do the same thing through obama's computer. same difference.

Computer security is much better and safer than blackberry only if handled properly which I'm mere sure they do.

Probably so but am sure his staff does.

yup but thing is - the staff is "separated" from the President's security cocoon wherever they go on the road. They don't ride together in same vehicle.

but hey - the President gets to have a say in most matters so it's entirely up to Obama if he wants to put himself at risk or not. He can choose to listen to lawyer/Secret Service's advice or not. Remember - it's an advice... not an order. :cool2:
