OBITUARY - LARRY BUTLER
14 December 1933-19 February 1997.

Professor Larry Butler died suddenly after surgery and will be greatly missed by Striga researchers and others who knew this generous, kindhearted, self-deprecating biochemist. Born on a farm, he received his BS in chemistry from Oklahoma State University in 1960 and his Ph.D. in 1964 at the University of California Los Angeles. For a year he was chairman of a science department at a church school reflecting his long interest in the Bible and church related activities. In the 1980s he began his research on polyphenol metabolism in sorghum. It was not surprising that this led to studies of germination stimulants produced by cereals that signal the Striga seeds to germinate. In 1986, he was the first to identify the host-produced germination signal, sorgholeone with a complex molecular structure.

His love of people and science endeared him to people around the world. Not only his colleagues at Purdue University but those of us who had only occasional interaction with him mourn his loss.

A Problem Of Missing Links At The Ultimate Primary Stage Of Evolution

Often evolutionary theory has been criticized on the basis of missing links, but in rather imprecise manner. Research in molecular biology results in quantitative contradictions of chemical and genetic theories. A rationale for replacement mutations is now under serious strain due to detection of complete absence of intermediate forms of two alleles, i.e., missing links. Again ambiguity of evolutionary hypotheses is exposed in as much as such theories lack predictive value and thus are not truly scientific.

When you say "us" and "our" do you mean born-again Christians?

... or judge them yet many christians did by voting to ban gay marriage.

Are you saying that American Christians cannot vote on legislation? Did Jesus say that Christians cannot participate in the political process?

Does that means they will cast to the hell because they judge and repeatedly impose their beliefs on people?

No one is "cast to hell" for the way they vote. The only reason people go to hell is because they refuse to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Period.

...again, I don't want to judge them...

But you do judge Christians constantly.

How are Christians "imposing" their beliefs on gays and women? Are you saying that Christians should not be allowed to speak freely against sins? Are you saying that Christians should not vote to support their beliefs?

Now, most liberals did by not judging anyone...

Not true. Liberals judge anyone who does not agree with liberal beliefs. Liberals don't judge other liberals, but they much judge conservatives.

...and paying their respects for gays, women who want to have abortion, God's creation a.k.a. environment, etc etc...

And liberals pay no respect to conservative Christians and Jews.

Jesus commanded that we not judge other people's hearts.
Jesus does expect us to use our wisdom to make decisions about right and wrong behavior.

Without judging behavior, how can you have law and order? The country would be chaos and anarchy without laws.
