Sonic Drive though

Now how can this serve the deaf if you cant hear the speaker to deliver your food? Should the government get involved like the ADA make drive though places use captions just like a self checkout asle in some grocery stores have?

I've never been able to understand a word anyone said through those speakers but it doesn't stop me from vocally making my order. I'm thinking what would work is if they have a camera focused on the drivers so that those who cannot speak can at least write down their orders and hold it up to the camera then there would be a green light flashing to let you know your order has been read, understood and you can move ahead to the take out window.
 
Does Self service checkout help you? It helps me. All i do its read insert my credit card and im done. Like at Sams Club for example.Sonic needs this.

Why would I need to use self service at Sam's Club?

Maybe another possibility for drive thru's are touchpad menus where you select what you want to order.
 
Well, in my case, where there's a will, there's a way...I'm totally deaf, but still speak....and whenever I go to to a fast food place take-out...I put my hand on the speaker and feel the vibes asking for the order....then I place it..and repeat it twice. It shows up on the screen...and if there is an error, I correct it....I've done it for years.

As for Sonic...if that doesn't work, or if you cannot speak clearly, then just wait for one of those skaters to come by, let them know you're deaf and they will take the order for you...Here in Jax, you are not allowed inside their restaurant, you have to order from the speaker, or the skater that brings ur food out. And they have been very accomadating to me.

As for the OP...you cannot expect all restaurants/stores to conform. Do all of them have Braille for the blind?....even other disabilities.....
 
Reminds me of a news item. Some woman bypassed the order center at a drive thru. The cashier refused to serve her so she refused to move her car. Ended up getting tased my police
I have seen deaf saying they will often bypass the order center and drive up to the cashier. Have to think 2xs about that now

No...the lady "jumped the line"....there were other cars ahead of her and one car was at the paying window and she drove in front of it.....

I've waited in line many times and if they did not get my order clearly, they will tell me when it comes my turn at the pick-up window....And sometimes I've been told just to "pull up" a little until they can complete my order, because other cars have already ordered and their take-out is waiting...it's no skin off my teeth!....

Some people have no patience and try to get ahead of other people already waiting, it happens all the time.

If there are no cars at the order or paying window, sometimes I do go ahead at the take out window...let them know I can't hear and they take my order. Never had a problem with it. But "jumping the line" because I'm deaf?...NO way.
 
Still a dumbass way to handle a line jumper. Police with tasers wimp out
 
I improvise when I go to Sonic.

Sometimes, I'll push the red button... wait 15 seconds... then tell them to send someone out.

Sometimes, I'll say "HEY!" to a passing server and wave them over to my vehicle.

Sometimes, I'll push the red button... and wave at the order-taker when he looks at me and gesture that I can't hear.

Just be creative. :)

The lady refused to move her car for ......20 minutes"!....Other cars were behind her, and if it were at Lunch time, many people only have 30 minutes to order their food and run back to work....

Plus, the Lady was very rude....thinking that she could jump ahead of everybody else who were patient and waiting their turns.....If she had of just moved her car and got back into the line, this would not have happened...but she chose to sit there for 20 minutes....refusing to move and demanding service before other people.

I don't blame the Police for tasser her...she assumed she was "much better than everybody else"...and didn't have to "wait like everybody else.
 
I have used the Sonic Drive-in since losing all my hearing. There is a button to push for "handicapped". I just push the regular button and say, "I am deaf, I will need someone to come out and take my order" and they send someone out. Did this both in Missouri and here in Florida and never had a problem.
 
im deaf i cant hear speaker but my mom can speaking on drive thru restaurant what i wanted my mom can order
 
I need ocean water, it never stop me find a way to get a pay attention from staff who take the order.
 
I am thinking that we really need to have a touchpad order where we can makes choices ourselves, doesnt matter if hearing or deaf. No matter what we say as hearing person or deaf - these fast food places still manages to screw up our orders from time to time. I am also thinking that if we have more CONTROL in placing order, we can easily see the heathier choices like hold buns, no mayo, dressing on side,, etc. Many of us get so lazy we just let it go and go with "normal order" without a care in world about the calorie laden add on choices.

Just look at the bigger picture as a win win.

Buying take out food is not a very effective way to live on a budget.

I didn't think you could use food stamps at fast food places either since they don't allow them for prepared food. I suppose if the fast food place also sells bags of chips or bottled drinks they could use them in that limited way. :dunno:
 
Shop at the Dollar stores they got grocery foods for cheap. like carton of 8 medium eggs for $1. Cheeseburger in a box for $1

Explain this for and this is truly something I have seen. Know those drive-up ATMs that most banks have. Why do the keypads have Braille? :shock: No joke, check it out the next time you use one.

I have not noticed nor have seen one at the Vystar Bank ATM lane...but will remmy to check next time I go....and have no clue as to why they would have it, as drivers are not blind (at least I hope not). But could undy one at the Bank which do have some ATM's out front, as some blind people could walk up and use the Braille pad....
