Father Has `Many Questions'
Sheriff says time is quickly becoming his enemy in search for 9-year-old.

HOMOSASSA -- When Jessica Marie Lunsford went out to play, her father and grandparents knew she'd come home when she was supposed to.

As hundreds searched Saturday for the missing 9-year-old, relatives, friends and church leaders described the girl with the wide smile as responsible, conscientious and mature for her age.

Days after Jessie was last seen being lovingly tucked into bed by her grandmother, the family wondered if they would ever see her again. The girl lived with her father and grandparents. Her mother planned to travel from Ohio to Florida to join the search.

Mark Lunsford is convinced his daughter was abducted, but he can't understand how or why. He said his mother woke up Saturday screaming for the missing girl.

She might turn up like Elizabeth Smart.

I think her mom took her... cause she mad at her ex husband.
She had not seen her daughter in 7 years.

Jessica's father Mark Lunsford said he doesn't think her mother is the one who took her. In fact, her mother is coming down to join the search for the little girl. (BTW, she had re-married and has a son).

Yes, I heard about it on the news, How sad.... I heard that one of the famous baseball player is offering 25,000.00 to find her. Isn't that so nice? ;)

*sigh* so many kids missing these days...

what the hell is this world coming to?

I know the other girl who was kidnapped about 3 years ago, and they haven't found her body about 2 weeks later, I think...she was buried in the dirt and her skull was there!

what kind of sick bastard would do that to a kid like her?!

"I have so many questions in my mind," he said. "How do you do that? How did someone come in and get my daughter? I just can't imagine. How did it happen? How do you do that?"

Is Mark Deaf? Ha Just joke......

anyway

My theory: There must be plot as conspiracy among Mark's family.. I aint sure if he killed her or Mark and his grandparet conspiracied to kill her and rid of her's evidence.. Wait and find out what is going with eventually.. You better figure what he said as Look that above from serveal quote by Mark Lunsford. "He said his mother woke up Saturday screaming for the missing girl." that is nonsense to me.... How did He hear his mother's scream something saying during the morning?.. If her daugther screamed, he would hear her.. Then hard look that " She woke up and screamed the girl missing, that is it..." That what his saying is not full describe.. MMMmmm...

I doubt he and his parents has to do with the girl's disappearance. The police had already ruled them out as suspects. Mark lives with his parents, BTW. So, I think it is because his mother is feeling stressed about her granddaughter gone missing, and possibly is having bad dreams about what could possibly happened to the little girl. Just my guess.

Aw, that's really sad, I just hope they will find her alive, most cases children end up being killed instead ! :(

I sure hope they find her alive, too...poor thing. 9 years old. Makes you want to hold your own kids real close and enforce some more rules...ensure they aren't out unsupervised. :( What a shame. All we can do is pray and hope for her safe return, although that's not entirely likely.

Yea so sad to hear that the 9 years old girl is missing.. Hope someone finds her safety and alive..

Police: Couey confesses to kidnapping, killing girl

Friday, March 18, 2005 Posted: 7:04 PM EST (0004 GMT)

HOMOSASSA SPRINGS, Florida (CNN) -- Convicted sex offender John Evander Couey has confessed to abducting and killing 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford, authorities in Homosassa Springs, Florida said Friday.

Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said that Couey had taken a polygraph test today, then at the end told officials, "'You don't need to tell me the results. I already know what they are.'"

Dawsy added, "John Couey admitted to abducting Jessica and subsequently taking her life."

The announcement came after authorities sealed off the Homosassa Springs home where Couey was staying when Lunsford disappeared three weeks ago.

The two homes are across the street from each other.

Helicopters are flying overhead. Yellow crime scene tape is stretched around the property. Police are searching the grounds and nearby wooded area.

Except for an unlocked front door, the Lunsford home was undisturbed, with no signs of a struggle. She lived with her father -- Mark Lunsford -- and her grandparents.

Lunsford said he had never seen Couey before or heard his name. He had earlier told reporters he was not convinced that Couey was involved.

Couey was arrested on parole violation charges at a homeless shelter in Augusta, Georgia on Thursday and questioned in the disappearance, law enforcement sources said.

Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength described Couey as "cooperative."

"He was taken without incident. He did not try to hide who he was," the sheriff said. "He told us who he was. And we had no problem whatsoever with him."

Investigators from Citrus County, Florida -- the lead team on the investigation -- and the FBI are questioning Couey.

The 46-year-old is registered in Citrus County as a sex offender but wasn't living at the address he had given authorities, sheriff's department spokeswoman Ronda Hemminger Evan said.

Authorities had already searched Couey's residence and removed several items from it, Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said.

Jessica is 4 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 70 pounds, has light brown hair and was last reported wearing a pink nightgown.

Dawsy said that Couey's name came up when authorities were investigating sexual offenders in the area.
Warrant issued after address change

Under Florida law, a convicted sex offender must register his change of address, and a warrant was issued, according to the sheriff.

Dawsy said detectives have been concerned about Couey because of his criminal history spanning more than three decades and 24 arrests, including burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, larceny and drug charges.

Couey pleaded guilty to 1991 felony charges of sex offense against a child, fondling a child under 16, and lewd and lascivious conduct in Kissimmee, Florida. He was convicted of indecent exposure in 1987, according to records from the sheriff's office.

During a 1978 burglary for which he was convicted, Couey was accused of grabbing a girl in her bedroom, placing his hand over her mouth and kissing her, Dawsy said.

CNN's Susan Candiotti, Sara Dorsey, Patrick Oppmann, Richard Phillips and John Zarrella contributed to this report.

What a sick man he is, taking a little innocent girl and killing her for absolutely no reason. Yeah, it makes me want to throw up, too. :barf:
