Real "Sybil" was a multiple personality fraud

I am surprised this is being publicized so recently. I think I remember Sybil was debunked years ago.

Just curious, are you referring to a new member who has a split personality in the introduction thread? If she is faking to get attention, then I am surprise to learn about Sybil's multiple personalities as fake. Wow, people like her and others know how to fool people with magic and supernatural to swallow the fish. :shock:

We have that in our native tradition lore as a storytelling pastimes. Us, children, were wide eye over them. :lol:

I got interested in this today after seeing the author's interview on Dr. Drew's show.
 
I read the book...and saw the movie many, many years ago....no time to check out ur link, but will later...

I do believe in multiple personalities, tho'.

I found it when I went looking for the new member's name. It sound like a she to me. Her username is MsHmcd from Kanata, Canada. She only made 3 posts so far. It is irony that you just talked about a multiple personalities called Sybil. Whoa, you were watching Dr. Drew's show. I really don't like Dr. Drew's program. :ugh:

Thanks, I'll look up that member's posts.

I occasionally watch his program if the guest or topic looks interesting while I'm channel surfing. I've watched him a few times but not often.
 
Are we talking about an ex AD member?...Or the woman named "Sybil"...that was diagnosed with so many, many different personalities?

OK, I looked up the posts of MsHmcd, and her profile. I don't think she's saying that she is actually a clinical split personality. I think she's just saying that she behaves differently in different settings. Sometimes she's quiet, sometimes "wild."

However, I'm basing that on a small amount of information available. Maybe she'll add more later. :)

The "Sybil" who is the multiple personality fraud was the woman who years ago, claimed to have many different personalities. I don't think our AD poster is in anywhere near the same league.

Just saying this thread itself was started because the original "Sybil" was in the news recently.

Maybe she is Bipolar?? I knew a woman that was and she when from being quiet to violent within second ! I did not know she was Bipolar when I had a disagreement with her. It almost put my unborn baby at risk as the woman was going kick me right in my stomach, I was able to stop her! She was not taking any meds to help her control her mood swings!

Yes, the Sybil case was debunked years ago. However, that is not to say that there are not cases of Dissociative Identity Disorder. It is, however, an extremely rare diagnosis. However, the dissociation disorders occur on a continuum. Many people suffer from a dissociation disorder that is less severe than DID.

There is no such thing as a "clinical split personality". The term for the disorder is Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Dr. Drew is just another one of those entertainers that exploit people.:roll: He nor Dr. Phil should be looked at for anything other than their entertainment value. Really a sad statement of our society that people actually enjoy watching their fellow human beings exploited on television.
