question?

This may sound silly for me to ask but I was wondering how do I get a TTY phone and other etc..? I got my ip relay on AIM but also would like to have a TTY.. My VR is being a pain in the butt since High School... It seems like they don't want to help with anything anymore so I kinda got :pissed: I've searched on the net for a TTY and etc. :eek3: it cost a lotta money for a :confused: tty phone and others. A ex friend of mine who is deaf just like me and got her tty phone alarm clock for free but doesn't remember how, :| anyone got any ideas? I'm needing the stuff so I can get my own place sometime once I get these stuff so I can be prepare to live on my own... alarm clock, phone, weather alert. etc...... My ex friend has gotten these stuff for free somehow... She didn't even go to VR. Just needing some ideas if anyone has any :dunno: thanks :)
 
I have no clue where your friend got that for free.. but I do know that you can get free stuff from the VR. otherwise, order it from a catalog.

first of all im really :pissed: at my vr. its been 2 years and STILL havent gotten the stuff, I kept calling on my ip relay to contact them and the kept saying my items is on the way..... Now tell me its been 2 years and it shouldnt take all that long.... I can understand it if was 4 months or something like that... I'm not trying to be rude but it gets :pissed: somtimes. My mother can't stand them herself. But I've contacted another VR but its about 5 hour drive. So I don't think Im going to go alll the way down there. Im probabbly will just keep pushing them cause its unreal for me to wait another 2 freaking years. ya know? :dunno:
 
Must VR counselors tend to reject things that you can easily get when you're at school. For instance, if you're a math major where computer isn't a problem... they will see no point in getting you a new computer. If you already have a computer and it is only a few months old, they will see no point in getting you a new computer. If the college already provides computer labs that has all the resources for you to use at any time, there's no point for a computer.

Did you ask your VR why they won't buy you a TTY?

If you have tried working with your VR counselor and he/she isn't working with you, then talk to his/her boss and explain the problem.

THEY HAVE GOTTEN IT FOR ME BUT MY POINT IS WHY IS IT TAKING SOOO LONG TO GET IT. ITS BEEN 2 YEARS ALREADY AND I KEEP CONTACTING THEM ABOUT IT AND JUST A MATTER OF FACT I JUST CALLED THEM THE OTHER DAY AND TOLD ME ITS ON IT'S WAY.... SOMEONE IS :liar: AND NOT TELLING THE TRUTH. YES IVE TRIED CALLING THE BOSS BUT NEVER CALLED BACK... ITS A SHITTY COMPANY TO TELL YOU THAT MUCH :pissed: I DON'T KNOW WHY OR WHAT'S UP WITH IT :dunno:
BUT A FRIEND OF MINE GOT HER STUFF FREE BUT NOT FROM THE VR :dunno:
 
There is some free Dos software that will turn any computer with a modem into a TTY (at least a 486 and I think a 14.4 modem.. but that kind of computer is over 15 years old so finding one isn't too hard)

It's only an ASCII TTY.. won't take Baudot or "turbo-code" calls, but any relay provider should have no trouble with it.. it's direct calls that might be a problem.

I /think/ most modern TTYs will autoswitch from baudot or ASCII depending on the call but I'm not sure.. some older TTYs have a switch on the bottom and very old TTYs are baudot only.

I've never owned a TTY myself and don't know how compatible it is in the real world. but it's free and it worked fine every time I called the relay.

If you're interested let me know I'll see if I can find it online again.. if not I might have it backed up on a disk somewhere.
 
I don't barley use my TTY, I use Ip relay services on line, instead. I only use my TTY in case of emergency ONLY. Soon, I'll get VP, Wouldn't need my TTY anymore. I will give it to those who are low income families, Deaf families.

so are you saying you would get rid of it when your ready? I use my ip relay also...have a good one :)

Cheri, you might want to hang on to it cuz you never know when you need it. That what happened to me. Cuz my date dont have computer or vp at all so I had to use tty and it all set up ready to make a call or receive a call. He is the only person that I have to get thru on tty. He is waiting to get a vp but first he had to get high speed internet modem for him to get vp. I cant wait so I can see him on vp. :D

May I ask what a VP is? :dunno:
the person might be right you may need it sometime. whatever floats your boat will be gooDd! :)
 
I'm no longer needing help with this product since a ex friend helped me find the site she used to get her stuff at no cost. all you have to do is fill out forms to see if they will accpet you... so lets hope it all works out....

again thanks for everyone's help/ :)
