Police: LI Mom left tots home alone
Police: Long Island mom left tots home alone - 6/19/09 - New York News and Tri-State News - 7online.com

Police say a Long Island woman left her 2-year-old and 5-year-old home alone for nearly three hours while she went to get her nails done.

Police escorted Jennifer Gonzalez, 24, to her arraignment on Friday.
The mother of two is accused of leaving her two small children home alone.

She told police that she went to get her nails done because she couldn't handle her own children. The boys are just 5 and 2 years old.

Detectives were called to the house on Polk Court just before 9:00 Thursday night after a neighbor called 911. Many in the neighborhood heard the children screaming, described by one as a piercing and alarming sound that lasted for about an hour.

When police arrived at the house, Gonzales was not home. Officers waited. They say she was gone for three hours. She told police she was angry at her boyfriend. She said the children were sleeping when she left.

People who live here said that was no excuse , especially here in an area that has become a dumping ground for pedophiles.

Other neighbors were surprised by the allegations. They said Gonzales and her boyfriend appeared to be loving parents.

NEVER leave kids when you going somewhere but you must taking kids anywhere than stay home!!

Sadly, it happens all the time. I hope the state will take these children away!

Never, ever, leave ur kids at home without an adult. No matter where I go, my 14 and 12 yr. old come along! It's against the law to leave them alone at home, anything could happen, even to the older kids.

She did say she couldn't handle her kids at the nail salon....that's a sure sign that her kids are not disciplined....My blood boils whenever I'm at the grocery store, even at the mall and see kids running thru the store, yelling, bumping into carts, even running around with grocery carts......unruly, undisciplined kids!

There's a time and place for everything. A lot of parents "just don't care"!

Irresponsible, makes me wonder why people actually have kids

I respectfully disagree, it depends on the child's age and maturity level to be allowed to stay home alone for a short period of time.

I do leave my 14 years old home alone while I do errands, he is very responsible and mature for his age, he also has a cellular phone in case of emergency or if he needs to contact me, I'll have my SK with me. I always check up on him in the middle of my shopping, and he always responds right back to me. But, in this story both children are too young to be allowed to stay home alone.

Lucky nothing happened to them. They surely will be taken away and have a safer home.

Same here Cheri

It is not against the law to leave older responsible children home.

I even called to make sure. As long as they have adequate food and access to a phone and emergency numbers to call.

Theses kids in the article are way too young!
I do not understand how selfish parents can be to leave their babies to fend for themselves.

I do leave my daughter from time to time at home. But not my son.

So...she just left the kids alone at home just to get her nails done?

Wow she is one incredibly stupid bitch.

wow, she's completely insane! I would NEVER leave my three year old son alone.

Sadly, my cousin leaves her 9 month old child for long periods of time cause she can't handle her. Because of this, she likes giving her baby over to other people like a hot potato so they babysit her baby while my cousin goes out partying or getting pampered.

oh my gosh!!

2 and 5 is way to young for kids to be left alone...

I agree...I cant understand why couldn't her nail appt wait until she finds someone to watch them? I can understand that it is hard to take care of 2 small children while getting nails done but if there is nobody available to watch them or she cant afford daycare/sitter then her nails would just have to wait until they are old enough to be left alone. Getting one's nails done is not a necessary need.

14 years old is old enough to be left home alone.
