I never heard of musicians not being able to sell their stuff on E-Bay... thats pretty dumb.. I can't believe the Canadian goverment is letting the CIAA tax blank CD's... What about all the people who (hypotheticly) are using the CD's for legitimate purposes (IE, backing up files such as tax documents...)?

Every single blank CD has a levy imposed onto it. No matter what you may use it for.

*Sigh* Thats nearly as bad, if not worse then down here... Wonder how long it'll be untill the RIAA decides to try that down here... Only I bet the MPAA gets in on it too... You could probably fit 6 or 7 dvd rips on a standered DVD-W.

my 50 years old cousin in California goes to movie every Saturday...
and pay to watch one movie... and then after that movie goes off...
she sneaks in another theatre room and watch movie in there...
and after that, she sneaks in other theatre room and watch movie
in there....

Many people do it.... even my mom does it..... My sister too.

Is that piracy when you rent an DVD at Blockbuster and invite your friends to pay part of it like $1.00? Is that piracy when you order an WWE PPV Event and invite your friends to pay part of it?

I always hosting WWE PPV party in my house, so its not piracy...

No...it wouldn't be piracy whatsoever, inviting friends over to watch a PPV (pay-per-view), however, either asking or requesting these friends to pay is like off-setting the costs the host has to shell out in order to have the PPV.

..However, making copies of the actual PPV and then selling it to friends would be consider that.

That is different.. its not piracy when you ordered the PPV .. buying the cd/dvd at lower prices and the industry lose their profits and the artists lose money too? its better to buy authentic thing instead of copied dvd. you can get in trouble for selling copyrighted stuffs on street. and RR is right if you made copies of the PPV event and sell the dvds then it is considered piracy as PPV lose their money as they bought the right to air the show.

So they paid $8 each to watch a movie in a theater. And when that movie is over they go in another theater without paying. And when that movie is over they go in another theater without paying 2 extra movies without paying is that piracy?

but when it comes to corporations such as microsoft and big name movies and artists, I don't see much wrong with the downloading of the warez... Maybe it will help keep people from having too much money...

What?
Who decides who makes or has too much money?
Financial Statements please everyone, and if someone thinks another one here has too much money then it's ok to steal some of it -- how ridiculous.

Nope. That is theft, 2 counts.

There is no excuse for stealing!!

Maybe I termed it wrong... What I meant was its ridiculous that we have baseball players and movie stars making millions of dollars for doing nothing. Once you've made several million, theres no reason to have anymore. People don't need million dollar mansions that take up a lot of land. And when it comes to Microsoft, they're basicly a monopoly. Hardly anyone uses the apple OS(2.47) and even less use the open source linux (0.36). Downloading would help keep money out of the big corporations pockets and in the hands of the consummers.

Well Miss P, at least that helps me understand a little better why you are the way you are.

We're just trying to get out of poverty.

Rich people ripped us off all the time.

The movie prices are too high... paying $50 for Times Warner, Directv or other stuff for 20 channels, I deleted PPV channel and sport channel...

I am so sick of self righteous people who are such law abiding folks,
these laws are made by RICH PEOPLE so we can stay POOR
all of our life....

And it isn't fair. We can't own a casino, only rich men can.

We can only work minimum wage, $6 a hour...

That is sad.

Anyway, screw it.

I think theres a point to be made here. Rich People do make the laws and they make the rules. Look at the Insurance companies for example. They ask the politicans to pass laws like you must have auto insurance in order you can drive. And then politicans make those laws and the insurance companies turn right around and rob our wallets. Now why dont we have laws on Doctors who make a lot of money like create .. Federal Medical Registration fee, State Medical Registration fee, Private Medical building Permit and License, Malpratice Insurance fees and Local Medical Taxes. So we can dry those doctors wallets and then use that money for free medical care for people who cant afford medical insurance. Politicans claim you dont have a right to drive a car its a privilege. Samething here you dont have a right to become a private doctor its a privilege. But Politicans will never make tough laws against the wealthy now would they? Like George Bush changed those Bankrupcy laws the Middle class can no longer file for bankrupcy to get over debt in bills. But the Wealthy still uses chapter 11 laws.

I think we should all just shoplift movies from Wal-Mart. That will put an end to Internet piracy.

Thats another thing. You dont see rich people shoplift from wal-mart do you? You wouldnt have shoplifters if George Bush would sign that minimum wage to $7.25 an hour. And if only George Bush get tough on Exxon,Mobil,Chevon,Texaco,BP and Shell CEOs and put them in jail too for price gouching

Remember to bring your portable DVD player so you can watch the movie in the bathroom stall while sitting on the toilet. And be sure to flush the clamshell down the toilet so you won’t get caught.

OK—enough of this frivolity. I’ve gotta get ready for work.

Ill bet you work at wal-mart right?

Laughing at all of you. Jack-o-lope, thats a good Idea about taxing doctors to high heaven, but why stop just at actors? Why not tax people like Brad Pitt, Marylin Manson, and Derek Jeter as well? Hopefully the goverment would catch on and start doing so... And Levonian, you're forgetting about all those lovely movies and books that are leaked before they come out...

They do get taxed, but they get tax deductions by donating to charities.

Yes, you're right about the movies and books being leaked onto the internet. In fact, there's already a digital copy (DVD screener) of 'The Simpsons Movie' floating around on the internet a week after the worldwide release. Just to show you how easy it is to pirate movies, music and softwares.

A DVD screener is what they use to send out to the critics, theatre owners, video retailers before they release it into the theatres or on home video. In many cases, a DVD screener will contain a watermark that appears a few times through the movie. Usually it appears in the corner or sometimes they will turn the video into black and white from colour for a few seconds at a time but not too often.

Not only to mention that there are many, many people within the film industry who will make an illegal copy of a movie and then upload it onto the internet.
