Since it has been snowing here every day for the last 2 weeks, we
have noticed whenever we take our dog outside, he eats the snow
so we thought maybe he is thirsty so i put out a bowl of water but
he just refused to drink it! He always eats the snow everytime!
Weird, huh? Does your dog or cat do that? and is it safe or not?
My husband says it is but i wonder......:dunno:

Snow is just... water.

As long it's not yellow, it should be perfectly safe.

Yeeah..u right but thats the argument i have with my hubby..
since the environment is not so clean, makes me wonder..
you know creeks, lakes and all are not really safe to drink ya know
what im saying?

Dogs like to eat snow, I've seen many dogs do it, It's perfectly fine, if the dog lives outside just make sure it stays warm so his core temperature doesn't lower from eating snow all the time.

Oh ok, glad to hear that, didnt know that dogs like to eat snow..since
Im originally from Oklahoma where we rarely get snow, lol!
My dog is really a house dog but he of course goes outside to do his
doggie business, thats when he starts eating snow, lol! and he loves
to run in the snow too, haha. It gets pretty darn cold here sometimes,
it gets below zero some days, so he dont stay out too long, just long
enough to do his doggie business.

Snow is very cold and refreshing but watch out for the Anti-freeze (blue-ish color puddling on ground - especially in Driveways or parking areas ....
Anti-freeze liquid for the vehicles is lethal to dogs and cats.

Defee, I imagine that ur dog liked the texture taste of the snow, as well as unfiltered water from the snow. At home, it's cleaned and filtered. Dogs love nature, no matter how dirty it is...perhaps even eat yellow snow. ewwww!!!

Sure it is normal. Snow aint bad compared to lick one's nut.

Hahaha! So true!!!

Good idea about the antifreeze or oil spots in the snow. Make sure u keep your dog away from the snow where cars tend to park.

My dog does that too. The first time I had her with the snow. She went outside and came back in with the snow on her nose. LOL cute!!

The guide dogs that come to the office like ice cubes. Guess they like the cold feeling.

Oh i realize that..yikes...very dangerous for animals to lick anti-freeze
as it sweet tasting to animals..we take our dog on the other side of
the house and put him on the stake far away from the driveway which
is on the other side of the house so there is no way he can get to
the anti-freeze.

Yes it is, I already talked to my dog's veterinary and she says it's very common, no wonder why every time it snows or if there's snow on the ground my dog gets soo wild, would just eat, and play in the snow. :giggle:

hahaha same with my dog, he would stick his face in the snow and his nose becomes white. Lol!!

he wins this argument, lol!)...since im a native Oklahoman..Im not used
to all this much snow and i was kinda worried about my dog eating all
this snow and all...

I guess all dogs do love playing in the snow and eating the snow, wowsee!!
