I have this Nokia cell phone for almost a year now and I will have to use it another year until my contract expires. I love it except for the contract and those taxes they added on to your bill.
When my contract for this cell phone expires, I am thinking of getting one of those "pay-as-you-go" cell phones like with TracFone or Virgin. This way, no contracts or additional fees, or even a monthly bill -- all you have to do is pay for those wireless cards so it will keep your phone activated.
Do you know of anyone (or yourself) who uses one of those pay as you go cell phones? If so, what did they like or dislike about them? I am hoping they would have a "vibrating" alert on the cellphone like my current one does.....I do know they have text messaging which is included in the package (and not being charged extra for it like regular cellphones do!).
Thanks to any of you who can provide your insight on these phones. :)

I had a nokia with cingular, but I use a tracfone now. It does have the vibrate feature. I can renew the minutes almost anywhere for as little as $5. What I don't like is if you let the time run low it gives you a recording to remind to to add minutes and you have to press the # key to get your call to go thru. It has good features like the phonebook, missed calls, and a bunch of other stuff, including games which I don't use. It keeps a charge for quite a while too. I give it a two thumbs up.

Thanks Codger. :) I am glad that these kinds of cellphones have the vibrating feature! :) I was wondering about that one.....so far, after reading your review, I feel I want this year to hurry up so I can switch. LOL
Thanks! :)

I was even able to get my nokia number transfered to the new phone. That helped my decision. My Nokia was a pretty good phone, but I got to the point where I could not hear it ring. And then I dropped it into a swimming pool I was servicing, so I guess I kinda had a little prod to change. One really good feature of the prepaid is that you don't exceed your minutes and get a surprise $200 bill at the end of the month. They can take minutes from you though if you do not add minutes every so often. Can't remember the time frame but I think it is 30 days.

I have a friend who has a TracPhone. She says it's nice. However, the calling cards are very costly.

What is an average monthly fee for Tracphone?

I have a pay as you go phone, its good cos its definately yours

I go some months without having to pay anything for my phone! I make sure I have plenty of credit so it lasts longer

There is no monthly fee for Tracphone. You just have to pay for calling cards. A 100-minute calling card is $30. Sometimes, you're required to renew your calling card minutes every 60 days to 365 days... depending on how many minutes you get. You are also required to keep buying calling cards. You can't just forget about it and then buy a new calling card when you feel like it. It's almost like your typical cell phone provider... but with your own minutes.

100 minutes for $30 OUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I pay my cellphone monthly and mine cost me 300 minutes for $30. See the big different. Yea I know there is tax. But I would rather stick with what I have. Cuz my provider is very good to me cuz of text messages cost me $7.50 per month unlimited. I know for a fact that some provider charge u for the text messages for a limited. Which I do not like. I rather have what I have now. I have Nextel.

What does it cost you if you go over and use 500 minutes?
You can't go over. You're paying for limited minutes. When your minutes are up, it will end and cut you off. That's why you have to pay for more minutes when you're about to run out of your current minutes.

Sorry for not using the quote thing on my last post. I meant that question for Pom. Not going over is one of the best features on prepay. But how much does it jack the mothly charge on Pom's bill to go 200 minutes over?

I am not really sure cuz I hardly ever use all 300 minutes in one month. I mostly use it on the weekend where is free. So I believe it can be between 15 to 20 cents per minutes.

I used to have Nokia long ago but when I stopped having service with the company and I used to purchase Prepay but it did not help enough. But as for currently I'm not sure. I am using SK2 and very helpful alot... I hate da*n voicemails or ppls calling for nothing.
