On Gallaudet Campus Robbery

Then quit complaining. Scared of getting hurt? Carry a knife or a can of mace or something. Hate crime? Don't go to Gallaudet. It's overrated anyway.

I believe it's illegal to carry knife/mace in DC... same for NYC.

No, Gally wouldn't relocation, I'm fully doubt that would happen and it would ruin of their history and very expensive to build schools, dorms or buildings, also set as campus. Neighborhood around Gally aren't bad now, unlike in 80's and 90's.

Not all blacks are doing like that, there's alot of middle class black families in Prince George County (PGC).

I would not want the Gally to move for a location.

It's the ghetto area which is the main reason that the black children need to live in a better location ...than living in the ghetto. These children do not need to be victimized. Probably, the parents are not paying attention their children's future.

This Prince George County is a new place which might be a lot better. I am not familiar this town. I read that the Gov't settle for poor people to live in PGC which is good.

Long term project for DC metro area. They are increasing property taxes and devaluing many houses to discourage homeowner. In other word, purge the crime and social status out of DC. A good model to compare that was successful is Moscow, Russia. Their city limit of Moscow has perfect police system but cross the city limit, poverty everywhere. That what DC trying to do, purge and push poverty out of DC city limit.

Its tragic of how African American got there first place. Martin Luther King Jr's infamous "I have a dream". That was beginning of everything. African American sold all of their property and went to DC to hear his speech. Then heard that MLK assassinated, cause riot in DC. A lot destruction and decided to stay. A lot white rich people moved out. Now whatever you want to call it today, the rich people are moving in because they can afford taxes and house values. Its slowly purge out the poverty.

Its a long term project. 80's and 90 were horrible, i heard from alumni. When I was there 2001-2005, I heard like 2 or 3 robbery per month. that was low number for robbery outside on street near Gallaudet. It has improved a lot since then. Now adding Metro 1/2 mile from Gallaudet will encourage more developers to search near Gallaudet for properties to devalue and develop more properties. That how it works.

Tragic method but successful.

Recalled as a student, every time friends and I went off campus we didn't miss a single day without seeing cop cars, firetrucks, or ambulances passing by with the flashlights on... we once humored making a bet as if we would see a day without them by luck but couldn't remember a day back ten in 80-90s.

Wonder as if it continued like that in las several years, anybody?

"Purging out poverty" sounds like something the Nazis did in the 1940s.

I find it a little racist to suggest destroying a ghetto just because a couple of Gallaudet students (whose rich parents are probably footing their college bills) got robbed by a few black men.

I've seen some pretty nasty stuff said towards Black people by members of the Deaf community I live in.

Just because there's a few bad apples, doesn't mean that every black person is going to give you trouble. It's wrong to assume that.

I agree with you.

In addition, the ghetto was not in existence when Gallaudet University (formerly Columbia Institute of the Deaf and Dumb) was built on the Kendall Green. You can see alot of country around the campus in the 1860s in old pictures which can be found in the Deaf Archives at Merrill Library. From my experience as a Gally student, many of people who live around the campus were decent.
