Have anyone ever visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial? If yes, tell your experience on your visit, if no, would you like to visit someday?

I did visited last year in June, It was very interesting the same time sad, I had shed some tears while watching the video and looking at displayed. They had a gallery of all the people and children that lost their lives in the Murrah Building. You also can see a room behind a glass what it looks like minutes after the bombing, I saw a child's shoe was laying there, Also there was a glass holder of all wallets and keys were found in the pile. So sad! :(

I haven't seen the Memorial (yet, would like to one day), although I have passed through OKC quite a few times before this tragedy took place....Indeed it would be sad to see the things that are displayed in the gallery, although, it's a fitting tribute to all those who perished. Since you've visited, by any chance, did you take any photos?

I went there with fly free during the USA tour we were doing abt 4 yrs ago if i remmy the time frame right. we stopped here and it was just wow impacting, seeing the clocks on the wall stopped at a certain time and seeing those golden chairs the tall ones for the adults and the little ones for the children, it was just wow speechless for me to say anything. we're glad we stopped there to pay our respects. we also did the same thing at the WTC too just mind boggling.

A few details

GA,

McVeigh did it because he was upset with the government about what happened at the Branch Davidian complex in Waco, TX and Ruby Ridge. It was so long ago that I can't find anything from a Yahoo Search.

Yep that's correct, He felt that the Government was hiding something about the situation in Waco, TX That's why he vented his rage on the Alfred Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and killing 168 people. :(

Yeah, that is why and our own government is becoming increasing like a traitor to the U.S. Consitiution and what strong, patriotic right thinking Americans stand for.

I don't think Timothy McVeigh meant to blow up the children in the daycare center when it was all over the t.v. news.

I think that if McVeigh had known that there were children involved in the building then he would never have carried that action out.

He meant to target the federal government. That was it. Nothing more.

I also think the government can't admit their own mistakes so unfortunately for the government there are body bags and memorials that backfire in the government's own face to serve as the government's own conscience to haunt them and the government hangs their heads in shame and anger when provoked then all the people in the world will see what our government is increasingly turning into and shake their head.

I think the government needs to stop playing with people's lives and let Real Americans take care of business, Send troops to the borders, clean up crime, too many judges at the local state and federal level , needs to be more centralized to stop liberal judges playing the devil's adovacte , bringing prayer back into the American classrooms and restoring American integrity etc.

Cheri, I live here in Oklahoma since 1995...Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to visit at the Oklahoma City National Memorial! I did visited where they put fenced around the building that was gone....I saw the pictures and letters on the fence. I ought to visit there pretty soon!

Yes, It was sad!!

I haven't touch Oklahoma state yet, but I would love to someday so I can see the memorial, and nice pictures sis, thanks for showing it to us!

I hope that you are not calling Timothy McVeigh a "strong, patriotic right thinking American"!

McVeigh knew that wasn't an empty building. He targeted a building full of innocent men, women AND children. The "federal government" doesn't bleed and die. Human beings were the target of McVeigh, and those targets suffered pain, lost limbs, and lost family members. There is absolutely NO justification for the bombing at Oklahoma City.

"A remorseless Timothy McVeigh calls the children killed in the Oklahoma City bombing "collateral damage," regretting only that their deaths detracted from his bid to avenge Waco and Ruby Ridge...."
http://www.kcra.com/news/563921/detail.html

"I understand what they felt in Oklahoma City. I have no sympathy for them...."
McVeigh's only regret was that the children's deaths proved to be a public relations nightmare that undercut his cause.

McVeigh is responsible for what he did at Oklahoma; not "the government."

Reba, I meant We the people....

Just as I suspected....

McVeigh told Lou Michel and Dan Herbeck, reporters for The Buffalo News, that he did not know there was a day care center inside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The authors will appear on Thursday's broadcast of "PrimeTime Thursday."

"I recognized beforehand that someone might be ... bringing their kid to work," McVeigh said, according to the ABC broadcast. "However, if I had known there was an entire day care center, it might have given me pause to switch targets. That's a large amount of collateral damage."

Reba, Here is what I have to say and I know it is the policy of the United States Government anytime civilian deaths happen to have the U.S. Gov't say that it was " collateral damage " which is no different than what McVeigh said " collateral damage ". Just watch CNN sometimes or the Dept. of Defense announcements or the White House t.v. media press meetings

McVeigh is responsible for what he did at Oklahoma; not "the government."
McVeigh did bomb the government building but I ask you what made the government cause one of its own soldiers turn on the US Government. I know that McVeigh recieved superb military training from the US Gov't and he was a Gulf War combat veteran.

He did use the military training in a wrong manner but you gotta be asking questions here with what is up with our own government and that is exactly what the government does not like. Anyone in his right mind would be questioning the events that led up to this incident then look into the matter and run afoul of a government cover-up.

i saw tv.. it broke my heart to see that.. also i havent touch there yet.. someday i would like to..

Well, i have been to OK but have not seen the memorial. BTW nice pictures you show here.
