Is it true that obesity was caused by eatin' fast food ? Please, share your feedbacks, opinions and experiences here. Thanks! :)

I don't think it's caused by eating fast food. I think it's because people have no damn will power. The people are just too damn lazy that they don't want to take the blame for themselves so they decide to place the blame on someone else. "OMG! McDonalds made me fat!" Aww... give me a break! :sure:

Heh. I'm obese myself, and I do not eat much lately and, shame on me, I do not exercise enough either. :P In fact, I do not feel "lazy" or anything like that but sometimes I just do not feel like doing any exercise, like going to a rec center or places like that. I walk around a lot, but it is not enough to lose weight.

Actually, Vampy said it all.

Fast Food Resturants are not the only thing that makes you fat. Obesity and related problems are caused by eating unbalanced diets, regardless of the fat and salt and such in them. A calorie is a calorie, whether its presented as (fat) or otherwise.. Junk Foods You buy at the Store have Salt and Yes, It would make you fat but you want to blame on the Bag of Chips? Just because You pick it out? If consumers know...the potential ill health effect of eating at Fast Food Resturants; they cannot blame Fast Food Resturants if they, nonetheless, choose to satiate their appetite with a surfeit of supersized Products.

i dont think that fast food only causes this. there are too many reasons people had problems with weight, possibly other foods' fault besides fast food. like on other thread vamp posted, a guy tested himself eating fast foods for a month without eating anything else. he became thinner but weaker because fast foods, has some chemical inside, were toxic and almost damaged his liver.
generally, from what i noticed a lot of people succeed losing their weight from reduced carbohydrate. i think most of time carb is the problem because you dont realize you ate a lot of them (or bad habit). rice, bread, pasta, cereal, and etc.
if im having weight problem, i would try atkin's diet! :thumb: lol

I believe this is a reference to the documentary that just got released, "Super Size Me" which has been getting a lot of good reviews.

He didn't lose any weight, he gained 25 pounds instead and became very sick too.

Here's the information on Super Size Me,

http://www.supersizeme.com/

Myself, I believe McDonald's need to be kicked in the nuts because of its reputation as the biggest fast food chain in the world and the lies it give to people.

They claim that their foods has nutritional values to it when it is simply not true. Myself, I want to know what the heck is in my food that I am consuming!

That guy only lived on McDonalds food. That's not something people should be doing. The same thing would happen if one person lived on only pizza from Dominos Pizza or someone else lived only on Taco Bell. It's not just McDonalds, but any restaurant if that person sticks with only that food. If this guy had McDonalds once a week or less while eating other food, while following health standards... then he wouldn't have a problem. Hell, I could lose weight eating only food from McDonalds! I lost weight eating only food from Hooters for a month! ;)

Oh wow.. very interestin' ! Thanks for sharin' with me. :) I just learned that there's about 300 million people all over the world who are obeses and they gets "pre-diabetic" because, of that. I think, for America it is 25 - 33%. Our country (America) is more high than other countries. I find this unbelievable !!
I wear "pedometer" everyday and I made over 10,000 steps everyday in despite of my weight at 135 lbs. I asked my doctor for pedometer, because of my age. I realized that lots of Indian people (Alaskan) have problem with diabetic, because they don't exercise enough or sittin' on the couch while watchin' their TV. One of my co-workers is a diabetic and she had it in 12 years ago. Right now, she is in her 50's.

E ..

I don't plan to take Atkins diet. I am vegetarian person. :) Cow/pig meats makes me sick when eatin' them. It contains hormones/antibotics in them and it's bad for health. Hormones/antibotics can cause cancer... imagine that how many times a week people are eatin' meats with hormones/antibotics in it per year? *thud* I can imagine it is alot ! I don't want to die young. I want to live long time !

The Atkins diet doesn't mean eating only meat and cheese. It means going low-carb. Eating salads is one way to keep your carb count down.

Carbo makes you stay same or gain weight !! I try very hard to eat avoid carbo food like bread, rice, potatoe, pasta, corn and peas. If you eat alot of vegetable, fruit and meat without carbo. You will be surprise to lose weight include exercise.

So far, I drink alot of water and eat alot of salad with meat. I lost 12 lbs so far. I realize, when you become more older and much harder to lose weight. :(

Walk exercise helps to shed few kilos and good for your health. I noticed lots of American cannot live without a car, they drive to pick up kids or grocery, what wrong with bicycle or walk.

McDonald have introduced its good healthy 97 to 99% fat free foods such as Chicken roll up, yoghurt berry, salads, its up to people to buy fatty foods, not to take the blame on fast-food chains as an excuse!

6 piece of Cadbury chocolate is same as dinner meals as I learnt it from Weight Watcher's. Chocolate is very very fatty.

Redrum, I agree with you, Americans cannot live without cars! That is why I love living where I live, right close to downtown SLC, so I can walk to downtown everytime. There is a gigantic park near my home, only two blocks away too, so it's great to hike and walk there.

I avoid a lot of fast food, generally eat it once or twice a month, but I still have a little weight on me. It's probably mostly from a poor diet. I don't eat enough vegetables and salads, but I am trying my best to change that. My bf is complaining that I eat too much salt! So, I gotta try and cut that down too, but salt is just too addictive, I think. I did a research and found that there are salt in everything you eat, even in fruit juices. Amazing, isn't it? What next, salt free diet?

Also, just because some product is sold as fat-free doesn't mean you can eat it all. There is still sugar, salt and stuff in it that is not good for you. But you still need some fat in your diet to burn some fat. I forgot how that works but that's why a diet with no fat at all is not good for you.

There's other reasons why obesity is rampant as well. Doctors are learning now that obesity is genetic and can be traced back to the parentage of the child. When a child grows up to be obese, the parents normally are obese. Take me for instance, I am obese and I come from a family that has morbidly obese family members. Several of my family members as well as myself are candidates for gastric stomach bypasses and it is not an elective surgery. It has been traced back to our parentage. Obesity is genetic.

In my case, genetic obesity as well with taking medication to control my epilepsy, this has caused obesity. Side effects of taking seizure-control medications, you will either suffer weight gain or loss. I've been on a wild roller coaster for over a decade of fluctuating weight loss and gain. Obesity is not necessarily from sitting on your ass and stuffing your face with junk food, there are other reasons why people are obese.

We're just a fat country, and I don't see it getting any better. Parents stuff their kids faces for whatever reason. A child is upset . . . feed them . . . bored . . . feed them. Food and TV & Intenert aren't an alternative to parenting. Nowadays, children are more less excerise due to using alot of internet and T.V., etc..

McDonald's, they eat meat and potatoes just like us . . . but no fat people. They smoke too much, but no fat people. And no fat kids . . . at all!

I speak from experience, I topped the scales at 200 pounds and now spend 1 hour in the gym daily working it off and diet with Jenny Craig Weigh Loss program for a year. I broke my knee cap when I picked up my son on the icy. I was on crushed for 6 months. I gained all back what I had lose lbs. I stopped going to Jenny Craig program.

I don't blame McDonald's, my parents, my genes or anyone else for getting fat. It's all my fault, and it's on me now to dig myself out of that hole. Funny thing is . . . I feel better, I look better, men notice me now . . . huh! If my fat wasn't causing the problem, then it must just be magic!! ;)

As for the Atkin's Diet. No medical professionals I've spoken with find this diet safe at all. And it may work for some, but my boss has been on it for 4 years and he's still doughy. Atkin's has become the new excuse to eat poorly.

If obese people don't want to lose the weight that's fine, but don't blame anyone else.

I *was* overweight once and it wasn't caused by eating fast foods. I had underactive thyroid which means my metabolism stopped working and I wasn't burning enough calories as much as I used to. Even excercising didn't help either. I gained weight overtime and reached to 67 pounds over.

Dateline recently had a show on three obese teenagers who went to a camp to learn how to manage their diet and exercise regiment. It was really interesting to watch, and see how they lived their life at home, etc... Did anyone catch it?

Thats good, Katzie..do you take Synthroid for your underactive thyroid?
I take it cuz i had parathyroidism.

I do not trust Atkins diet since there are documented health problems related to it, even if it seems like a coincidence. I have lost 30 lbs from being on the south beach diet, but there are always reasons why a person is overweight or obese - genetic, health issues, psychological issues, etc... with pregnancy it's easy to pack on some lbs, as well. A person can be just depressed - and be addicted to food instead of alcohol or drugs. Laziness seems rather convenient for others to pin on something they know nothing about.
