Obama's Legacy

$75,000? I thought they said $4 million?

The trip to Hawaii will be 4 million but to be accurate, Obama is paying for his own house and personal expenses. Taxpayers are footing the bill for air force and security. The air force flight to hawaii and back will be 3.2 million.

Don't worry. Obama will pass Bush before his time is up. After all he does not have a home of his own to save expenses on.

Oh? What about his home in the Kenwood area of Chicago?:cool2:

The cost of one trip to the ranch is over 200,000 (during Bush's term). that is almost 3 times the cost of obama's trip to nyc.

Just for going to his own ranch?! That's fucked up.

Hmm...two vacation trips to Hawaii once for 2011 and once in 2010 cost at least $5.6 million dollars. So much sacrifice, it's impressive. Although president Obama has not left for Hawaii, yet.

Oh, excuse me! He still has that home? Why does he not save the taxpayers some money and go home?

It would cost the same amount as going to Hawaii. The vast majority of cost for presidential vacations is for security. Please try to keep up.

Cost of security isn't given. If it's vastly more then I suppose the $4 million dollar trip (on cost that can be accounted for) to Hawaii would perhaps be double that amount? Maybe triple? At least it'd much more than the $4 million dollars total.

UNKNOWN COSTS

There are several costs the White House annually refuses to release, citing security.

For example, the president’s security usually rents an entire floor of an office building in Kailua on the canal during the president’s stay.
There are security upgrades and additional phone lines to several private homes where Obama and friends are staying. That includes bullet proof glass installed, home security systems disabled, new security measures put into place and additional phone lines added.

There is the cost for car rentals and fuel for White House staff staying at Moana Hotel.
And there are additional travel costs Secret Service and White House staff traveling ahead of the President.

Why does the location matter in determining cost? The only difference between Chicago and Hawaii is an extra tank of gas in the jet. Everything else is relatively the same.

This is basic logic.

I never said anything about location. I said that security cost isn't detailed into the overall total cost. All we have is the cost of $4 million dollars. If we know how much the cost is for all security related matters, housing the secret service agents, etc, etc, the total cost would undoubtedly be much higher than subtotal cost of $4 million dollars for 17 days of vacation time.

Who cares? Of course it's going to be a lot. He's the president of the United States. Not his fault. You think he personally makes these decisions?

Besides, my comment that you replied to was not about specific cost amounts. It was about cost amounts being the same, regardless of location.

He decided to fly to Hawaii.

Location is a factor on increasing the overall cost. The farther the location, the more hours it take to fly there. So is the length of stay.

However, the U.S. Air Force provides the most current numbers of $181,757 per flight hour. Travel time for Air Force One direct from Washington D.C. to Hawaii is about 9 hours or $1,635,813 each way for a total of $3,271,622 for the round trip to Hawaii and back.
