I doubt we're paying for Obama's vacation to Hawaii. It's more like we're paying for security that follows him.

Exactly. Those costs would apply to him going no further than down the block!:P

Paid vacation means that the person still receives his wages during those vacation days. It doesn't mean that the employer pays for their vacation trips. That's what sequoias is referring to.

Hmmm maybe that's possible. Still expensive as hell.

Bingo.

The president does receive a salary, after all. It's not astronomical, but it is certainly generous enough to afford him plenty of nice vacations.

The security? Taxpayer money. I mean, he's only the most important and powerful man in the entire world, ya know?

According to CBS news - Presidential vacations: How does Obama compare? - CBS News

"There has been criticism of the president's vacation at this time. But how does the number of vacation days the president has spent compare to his predecessors? CBS Radio's Mark Knoller has kept track of presidential vacations for years and supplied the data.

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.

Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off -- 28 days.

To be fair, a presidential vacation away from the White House is not the same as a vacation for the average person. The president is still in contact with his advisers and on call for any emergency."

Who knows what the president's perks on the job. We all know his politocal stuff are spent by the taxpayers money. I think there should be a limit on how much he spends on his vacation a year. $4 million dollars on vacation expenses is awfully a lot. Sounds like more than an average rich person who goes on vacations.

The average rich guy does not need SS agents following them and their family everywhere.

They would if the average poor person knew how much they were getting screwed over by these rich guys. :cool2:

:laugh2: You have a point there. It is to their advantage that the average poor person is...shall we say...naive.

we do. everything's documented and it's part of public record. that's why we know how much he makes and how much of our money was being spent.

what political stuff?

True about the security costs but still not wise on money. Bush and others mostly stayed at the ranch while Obama goes all over the place. Interesting abt clinton only taken 28 days. Try mine. I only get 3 vacation days a year with pay. :-/

Guess who is paying for Wifey and the Girls to go.

BTW Bush trips to Crawford cost how much as compaired to HI?
Did I mention he stayed at his own house?

well it's not Obama's fault that he was born in Hawaii. Hawaii is his hometown. What do you think what he should do? get a ranch next to Bush?

that sux. I get almost 4 weeks off. the perk of working at university otherwise it would be 2 weeks if I were working for a company. and my boss has been pestering me on frequent basis to take a vacation since I don't use it up much.

Wow! How much worse sexist language could you manage to use?

Name a President whose family was not covered in travel and security. You act like Obama is the first President to ever take his family with him anywhere. The Bush daughters alone cost this country plenty in security costs.

Bush took 77 trips to his ranch and 32% of his 8 year term was devoted towards his vacations. Conservative estimates for his trips to his ranch alone was 17.4 million.

Yeah, true. Just kinda like I'm going to California to visit my family and I live in Iowa. Putting a ranch next to Bush would be awesome, j/k.

Don't worry. Obama will pass Bush before his time is up. After all he does not have a home of his own to save expenses on.

Are you assuming he gets another 4 years?
