No Gas at 711 Store...

You all would not believe this!

I recently drove by at 711 Store across the street to fill up the gas...had to buy 7up bottle and thought it would be perfect timing to fill up the gas since there wasnt crowded....

Anyway, when I pulled up...I saw the sign says, "NO GAS"...at each of it.. :jaw:

No Kidding! So, I went inside the store and asked what happened...they laughed and said it ran out of gas - ALL OF IT..since last night! :lol:

They are still waiting for someone to take care of it...

Have you ever experienced that? It's my first time experience this! I think it's funny! :lol:

Since when did 7-11 start selling gas? :lol: Last time I was near a 7-11 was 8 yrs ago, and as I recall, they didn't sell gas.

You learn something new every day! :eek:

That is nothing to what I have experienced!

Many of you never been in early 70's. It was NIGHTMARE!!! To solve problem (didn't work well anyway) that gas station allows sell gas to odd license plate on the day, but not allow to sell even license plate, and the next day they switch from odd to even, then switch. Meaning you can't get gas every day like we do today.
Many of gas station back then ran out of gas, whenever there is gas available there will be a LONG line!!! I still remember that vividly with that AMCO gas station! UNREAL, but back that time I thought it was normal. That was when I was 7 years old.
I remember clearly on government advertising encourage on saving gas by showing empty highway as IF we actually ran out of oil. Well its 30 years has passed already did this empty highway actually empty? NO! more cars than it was 30 years ago.

I've been through the 70's and I have never seen any gas crisis back then. I was 10 years old when that happen. No lines, no gas shortage, nothing. I do really believe that people panic and started filling up cars all the time at where it was happening.

Even right after 9/11 people panic and started to fill up the cars all the time since all the gas stations had a line of cars waiting to fill up. People are just stupid.

But, yes, I have seen gas stations run out a brand of gas, not a issue, I just go to the next gas station to get the brand I need.

I kind of agree with diehardbiker. 1970s did went thru gas shortage back then. I think it was some kind of boycotting the gas related to price increase or gas shortage.

That might have happened where you were, but it didn't happen where I was. I grew up in Southern Missouri and never saw any gas line or out of gas. A friend of mine told me he never saw any gas line or out of gas in Dallas, TX also.

I'm not disputing there was a oil-crisis or gas lines or out of gas. I'm just relating to my experience that I didn't see any of that.

Yes, I remember the gas lines and gas rationing. I was in my early 20's, and fortunately, I was driving a VW bug at the time. Also, I lived and worked on the Navy base, so I didn't need to commute many miles. But yes, it was a nightmare.

Since we lived on base, the building heat and AC was controlled by the Navy. They decided they could save a lot of fuel by lowering the heat and raising the AC settings. Many places also reduced their outside street lighting, so crime went up. All kinds of weird things were done to save gas. Oh yeah, all the highway speed limits were lowered to 55 mph too, to save gas.

All the 7-11's here have always sold gas.
 
Makes alot sense! Your really sitting on America's HUGE oil reserve! Plus your around the oil refineries. That is why you don't see much of the crisis back then. What I learn is that Uncle sam had their own huge, I mean HUGE oil reserve buried under mostly deep southern states. The purpose of this is to cushion any crashes from oil running dry. Uncle Sam knew there will be HUGE panic once the last drop come out of the oil well. I doubt it will happen in our lifetime.

If you have read the article that Redwolf gave you the link. Now you see why middle east crisis isn't really new! War around middle east have nothing to do with recent event. It date way back before we found oil in Titusville, PA! Middle east crisis really have nothing to do with oil, but because Saudi knew America can't live without oil, thus playing games with us. This lead us into thinking that the crisis really is about OIL. The crisis really is about their religious! Muslim around jews, and that Muslim HATES jewish!!! And that America supports Jewish. That is what fuels anger from middle east muslim.
This goes to why Bin Laden lead to WTC disaster. That is because Bin Laden wants America to quit supporting Israel and let them wipe out Israel.

Anyway, I am not going to discuss more about this BS. So my point is one gas station runs out of gas isn't big issue.

I'm too young to remember the gas crisis from '73, but I did hear stories growing up about it and remember seeing images on the news.

As for 7-11, sometimes stations just run out. There is one exxon not far from here that runs out every couple of months it seems. Its a delivery issue that they have where they don't order enough....just like when they run out your favorite Hostess Cupcakes and you have to wait for more. One gas station running out of gas does not indicate a fuel crisis in the works...it means that either somebody goofed on the order or the tanks are big enough to hold them over until the next delivery.

There aren't many 7-11's here that sell gas...most of them are just stores but I have seen the gas stations.
 
Yea, delievery usually the issue. And your right about 7-11 not heavily market on gas. That is because 7-11 made HUGE mistake, they bought HUGE refinery in the south America... They forgot to seal the deal with oil supply! No oil, whats good is refinery?

BTW, TSK TSK TSK!!!! Shame on you letting RS keep his cell phone in Jail-room!!! No prisoner is allowed to have wireless device, or any device that could turn into weapon!

Anyway, back to topic... Where do we get gasoline? Ofc, crude oil! So how do we extract gasoline from crude oil? That is what Refinery do! Refinery seperates several elements from crude oil into sectors, some comes out Kerosone, pellets(That is what Plastics is from), Diesel, Tar, gasoline, etc. So, owning refinery without owning oil source then refinery is useless because it can't get oil to split the elements. It is NOT easy to get "Oil rights" Have to have LOTS of money to buy and it is extremely difficult for oil rights owners to give up the rights and sell. Selling refinery is easy part. Only suckers will lose money if bought refinery without oil rights.

I learn that from good friend of mine who once work in Oil refinery(Citgo) for 3 years. Money is good, but LOTS of work and LOAFING! Yes, sometimes you can't work for whole week but get paid for (Safety reasons often the reason)! They are very strict on safety, and failure to adhere the rules can result loss of one week paycheck!!!

I'm sorry....I should have clarified. I'm familiar with refineries but I did't know 7-11 lost big by purchasing one and having it fail. Many companies purchase gas from different sources...I guess they thought they could do it cheaper themselves and they lost. I know years ago, they use to purchase wholesale from different companies.
 
I could ask my friend how 7-11 suckered the deal back then. I remember that he told me story about this few years ago. Still remember, I remember easily when it comes to oil and gas talk. hehehe Maybe because the 73 oil crisis had impact my memory too well for me to remember anything to do with oil.

I have noticed when I stop at the gas pumps (any brand of gas) sometimes one kind of particular blend of gas will be out on some of the nozzles.

At my fave gas station, the Pilot that is 3 miles from my home and work, (it also is a truck stop) I've seen gas tankers come by to fill the underground tanks perhaps 2 or 3 times daily! The Pilot never seems to run out of gas despite being in a heavy-traffic area of Knoxville close smack to the interstate.

Yea I remmy back in the 70's. I was a little girl and seeing all those long line. My aunt was driving me and my deaf cousin to school. On the way to school she had to stop at the gas station. My poor aunt was worry whether we get to school on time or not. It was not a pretty sight at all.

I do have some experienced when I go to gas station and find that it run out of gas and I ended up going somewhere where there is gas. It cost me more. But better have gas then no gas. :D
 
In the summer of 2003, here in Memphis, we had a freak storm that took out about 90 percent of our power. We're talking about 100 mph winds. Street lights and everything were out. Just about every gas station in town ran out of gas. It was a night mare!
