newly elected sheriff fired four deputies are filing lawsuits because they were fired by new sheriff daugherty. Same here in st lucie county. Rodney black who was running for sheriff who lost the election promised me deputy ken would be fired by me if i get elected. Rodney black called me on the phone his concerns over unprofessionalism by st lucie county deputy who didnt properly talk to me by calling me sir and made comments about my hearing aid. I complained to the supervisor and he didnt act professionaly kinda tell me go to court and tell your complaint to the judge..YEAH RIGHT!! If i did that judge would say im guilty and i pay court cost plus doubled in my fines. I went to sheriffs mother who is owner of the bowling alley in st lucie. She taunt me off by saying well son youll have to discuss it with the sheriff he might be my son but i have no control how he runs his business here. But i told my complaint to Rodney Black and he said when im elected you just come over to my office and ill take care of him for you. Its the stupity of the people of st lucie county who must love that crooked sheriff mascara who harrases people and doesnt reat them with respect.

What exactly did this sheriff say to you? First, law enforcement people are not required by law to call you sir. They aren't required to be polite or nice. While I would hope so. Usually when I call people sir is when they are a victim of something or if somebody is a real smart ass to me. I've had people cuss me out left and right and instead of cussing back, I tell them to 'Have a nice day, sir'.

I don't know what your exchange would have been with the sheriff, but are you sure you didn't give him a reason to be rude or act the way he did? After all, you would really be on my shitlist if I found out you went to my Mothers work to complain about my actions. That is way over the line. You being told to take it to court was the right thing for him to say, and that is what you should do. Nobody will ever, ever, ever win an argument with a cop, no matter how right you are....take the ticket and say your peace in front of a judge.

He is correct, take it to the Judge nothing they can do about it. The Judge does the final ruling, It does not mean you are guilty, Everyone goes to court, You can plead one of the three choices, not guilty, guilty or no context (sp?) before facing the judge.

If she tells her son what you did I am sure he can use it in court against you. And she is correct, She has no control over what he does.


Let me give you advice for later use purpose, Police officers likes when people have the right attitude, and to cooperate.

But the sheriff deputies been a real assholes on my case like when i had my handicapped permit on my dashboard i had trouble of hanging it and wrote me a god damn parking ticket failing to feed the meter. Well i took it to traffic payments and this old bat tells me show me your handicapped permit and i showed it to her and she charged me $7 fucking bucks because she said thats the only way i can get out of it. I said why should i pay $7 if the deputy made a mistake she said thats the only way you can get out of it or pay $250 its your choice. You see how corrupted the sherrif dept is? They do anything to pay the fees to the county. Its all about revinue. And the people of st lucie are too stupid to realize this sheriff is a con artist.I wouldnt too suprised if florida is known to fix elections.As a republican myself i feel al gore was right. Both california and florida elections are fixed by the beaucrats of the state. I also feel ohio is fixed too i wouldnt be too suprised if the throw out certain ballots who voted for kerry. I might just never vote again because it doesnt really count. The beaucrats are the ones who says who gets to be mayor,sheriff,governor or your congressmen or even your senator.

Steve, We are told to call be sir and ma'am, and I'll do it if they are polite to me or if they really piss me off and I do it to get under their skin. In most instances I will say it. I get tired of hearing the 'I pay your salary so I can talk to you any way I want...you are a public servant' BS. The last time I looked at my paycheck, taxes were taken out. There are people that respect the police and there are those that hate the police. There are people on this board that despise me because of what I do (and they have told me this so it isn't an attitude I've imagined).

I see you say a lot of bad things about officers, and maybe the sheriffs or cops in your town are bad...The thing I notice about your threads though is it always starts off with they are bad because (insert reason I got a ticket here). Speeding...running red lights, not feeding meters, driving at night with your highbeams on (accident or not, you were still blinding other drivers). You committed a violation and the officer wrote you a ticket it for it. Yeah...some cops can be pricks and write tickets for doing 6mph over the speedlimit. This doesn't make them crooked...

Just out of curiosity, how did you get a $250 dollar ticket for not feeding a meter? You sure there wasn't more to it:

Sec. 72.99. Penalty.
(a) Violation of parking regulations shall be punishable by a fine as follows:
(1) Violation of Florida Statutes regulating handicapped parking: $250.00.
(2) All other parking violations (except as provided for in subsection (b) below): $25.00.
(b) Any person found guilty of violating any provision of section 72.03, shall be punished by a fine of $100.00 for a first offense, $150.00 for a second offense and $250.00 for a third and subsequent offense.

From what I gather, you got wopped with $250 for parking in a handicapped spot without displaying your placard properly . He saw a violation and he wrote you up for it. From what I know, your city doesn't issue a $250 fine for just neglecting the meter...If that is the case, it would mean the ticket wasn't paid when it was supposed to.

Just so you know, our department has citizens who drive around the city looking for people parked in handicapped spots without properly displaying their placard. While annoying, there is nothing like having a citizen telling you how to do your job, and they can quote the law to a T in regards to handicapped parking. An officer is put in a situation where he cannot let you go for breaking the law as that will bring on a complaint from that citizen. If you are going to get a complaint, better to be from somebody who broke the law than somebody who says you are ignoring the law.

I apologize if I seem like a grouch on this, but I get tired of some of the parking stuff in our own city. In our downtown area, parking is at a premium...and people feel they can just block someone's driveway (a $100 fine in our city...plus a tow to the impound). People act like that red light wasn't for them....I'm not trying to be an ass, but either stop breaking the law, harassing sheriffs mothers, or look around to make sure a cop doesn't see you when you decide to just 'slow down' for that red light.

Because I don't think the cop made a mistake. It sounds like he wrote you a legit ticket (although he could have shown a little leniency). Your lucky you got off with a $7 fine instead of the $250. That is what led me to believe that this was a normal ticket that you refused to pay and the fine went up to $250. Did you refuse to pay your original fine?

Dont you know most cops are corrupted? Most of them break laws themselves because they wear that badge. The badge means for to officers to uphold the laws and enforce the laws. Not to abuse their power. Thats abusing your power as an officer of the law to park in a fire lane to go in a grocery store just to pick up a few items to go home. Thats abusing your power as an officer of the law if you go over 10-15 MPH over the speed limit without your lights on. Thats abusing your power as an officer of the law if you go though a red light without your lights on. All those offenses would result a traffic citation for any other driver. So in defense we the taxpayer have every right to fight back against corruptive police officers for abusing their powers like putting a video cameria and taping them in back of their squad car and showing your speed odemeter how fast theyre going then point a cameria at the speed limit sign and then make several copies of the tape and send one to the supervisor and the others to your local TV stations cause COPS hate the press. Like CBS,NBC,ABC,CNN,FOX NEWS all made a bad impression on the LAPD on that video tape beating up on rodney king. And that cincinatti police officers cause a black man to die with a heart attack after making an agressive arrest outside the burger king resteurant. And on 60 minutes Cops all hate mike wallace cause he did a report on abusive corruptive cops who are breaking the laws. After that story they arrested mike wallace after pulled over for unsafe lane change and he refused to sign the ticket. That bull its all about getting even because he made them look bad. And thats corruptive abuse of power as well.

Cause they dont unless the media makes a story out of it. Just look at it this way.Supposed the rodney king beating was never video taped and the media wouldnt put hearsay on the air. And after cops beat up rodney king brutaly there would be no action taken. Cause theres a thing called the code of honor. The code of honor means cops will not report any volations on their behalf. And my uncle told me this,If i report anything to those officers they get my tag number and if they see me on the road theyre write me up for every shit little thing i do. Then im not gonna afford to drive my car because of insurance rates increase. Cause cops ban together like family. I even heard stories when a black man guns an officer down after they find him and book him they lock him up. And when they find out their fellow officer passes away they go in his cell and beat him up brutaly again. And no action will be taken against the officers. Now if my best friend died because of a guy killed him for money and i go to the killers trial and the jury gave on 20 years and i go over a beat the living crap outta him id be charged with assult n battery now will i? I apologize for the delay in answering this for you. I explained to you why in my PM. Are their crooked cops? Just as with any profession, there are bad apples. You will find less bad apples in police than you would in other professions because of the background that is required. When I applied, the background process was very thorough, including interviews with my neighbors, my ex neighbors...going back 15 years.

Anyhow, I don't think you quite understand how things work. A badge isn't a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card. Why do officers speed while they are on duty? There could be several reasons. When an officer responds lights/sirens, it puts everyone at risk...the officer, as well as the general public. Many calls for service do not warrant lights/sirens because of that risk. Things like Robbery, fights, etc allow it. You come home and find your house broken into from earlier in the day, it doesn't warrant lights/sirens (If your home and somebody is breaking in, then that is different...I'm referring to an earlier breaking/entering).

Now, the public is very critical of the police department...more so then they are for other professions. For instance, lets say somebody broke into your house while you were at work. You come home and and go inside..nobody is in the house and the intruder is long gone. You call the police. It takes the officer 15 minutes to get there. That alone will cause the citizen to file a complaint...."The police took 15 minutes to get to my house". Had it been an 'in progress' call with lights/sirens, the response time could have been 1 to 2 minutes. Anyhow, the citizens that are upset that it took 15 minutes to respond to an earlier B&E or a parking complaint are the same ones who scream the loudest when they see an officer driving over the speed limit.
The public seems to not understand there is a HUGE safety risk with an officer driving with lights and sirens on...and it isn't needed when its not an in progress call (such as robbery, fight, etc)....but there is pressure to respond to your house immediately.

Additionally, you may see police on the highways traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane. Again, that officer could be responding to a call that doesn't warrant lights/sirens, etc. But, that officer could just be patrolling. Let me ask you a question...have you ever been driving down the highway when an officer is doing the speed limit (I'm referring to interstates). We've had officers do just that and get complaints. Why? Because it causes a traffic jam (and people have the nerve to complain the officer is slowing down traffic and everyone is scared to pass). Additionally, if the officer is doing the speed limit causing a traffic jam, he is looking at the same cars for the same 10 miles. If he is moving faster than traffic, he is coming up behind them, and in most cases, they are unaware of the officer coming up from behind them. Would you rather have the officer riding next to you for 10 miles or have him move along and catch somebody doing something wrong?

You also have to remember that when they are driving, they are under the public scrutiny. People will file a complaint if an officer is doing 5 mph over the speed limit, but will not think anything about a commercial vehicle doing 15 to 20 over the speed limit. Some people are waiting for the police to screw up just so they can complain (I believe you would fall into this category).

As for off-duty, our consequences are a lot worse when it comes to getting tickets. When you carry a badge, its not required the officer let you go. You'd be surprised at the amount of officers who write other officers tickets, especially when its a surrounding jurisdiction.
When you get a ticket, you get a fine. When I get a ticket, I get the fine, and I lose vacation time, comp time, pay, as well as suspension without pay. A call would also be placed to my superior about it. When you get a ticket, do they call your boss? No.

I know there are officers that speed, but no officers are above the law. The general attitude of officers that I know and work with don't feel they are above the law. Obviously I cannot speak for all officers. But not all of us go speeding around or feel we are above the law.

If you see an officer driving irradically or being stupid, by all means, file a complaint....or write a letter to the chief. If you feel they are acting irresponsibly, you should make contact with the superiors.
