Hi All!
I'm new to the Internet deaf society and want to know a few things: what is the benefits of online socializing for deafs? Can you really make friends online? Does it help to feel less socially isolated?
Hope someone wants to answer me!
 
I hope I can make friends! To me, the benefits of online socialising are infinite. If I weren't socialising online, I wouldn't be socialising. I'm the only deaf in my family, and I know of no deaf in my area, especially since I don't live in town.

You'll probably do fine making friends online if you give it some time and keep a smile on your face. :)

(My problem is probably either I talk too much or it's incredibly weird to be deaf AND adult AND a My Little Pony fan all at once to the point where people are afraid of me or find the combination repulsive. Furthermore, I'm learning SEE. Sin of sins! I've put communication with my family ahead of cultural demands.)
 
Online forums have been shown to make many people feel less socially isolated.

Yes, we are a friendly bunch; I've met one other person here (Hi, Pepsi!!) and I've gotta say, if she's friendly, we're all friendly [GROUP HUG EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!] :grouphug: I've also tried to meet up with another one, but scheduling conflicts have stopped it more times than once, much to my dismay.

Seriously, though, some of us talk about stuff that's near and dear to our hearts and have passion for it, while others just pop their chops on whatever. I do both (and admit it!), so it's important not to take things too personally, okay?
