My Bypass Heart Surgery

Thanks everyone. I'm getting better though I have a hard time walking on my right leg cuz of so many stiches.

yike! was it because they had to cut a vein out of your right leg for your heart?

You don't need a lecture, so I'll keep it at a minimum (you knew I was going to say something). You will want to listen to your entire health care team, as they're watching your health and you need to do the same thing. Hear me, my friend?

I hear ya. :P

deafskeptic, did they use yur saphenous and brachiocephalic veins?

Uh.. I'm not sure what those are. I assume these are veins from my left arm and right leg that are commonly used in heart bypass surgeries.

i wonder - does the body grow new veins to replace those?

I hope you are okay, get well and take it easy. Wish you a speedy recovery. :)

it will revascularize to an extent, very small venules and capillaries, but the large veins will never be present there again

Oh wow.

Glad you sailed through.

Have a speedy recovery.

One question. How come you couldn't get stints in your heart instead?

Wow on Christmas eve !! but Glad you re okay!!

Take a good rest! :)

revascularize? whoa there... english please! but i'm going to assume that means body does regenerate veins but not the major veins. :ty: for answer.

Wow. My grandfather Smith died of complications of heart attack at age 80. My father has high blood pressure but no heart problems but he's almost 79 now and he smokes a pipe. He's also a retired cardiologist. He's doing way better than me.

I don't think I mentioned in this thread that I've already had my first heart attack at age 42 and lived thru it before I came to this hosipital. I'm very lucky I had no heart damage from my heart attack.

My grandmother Smith had rheumatic heart disease as a result of Rheumatic fever. Members of the family tell me she had to have dresses in 3 different sizes cuz she'd bloat up with fluid or go back to normal depending on how well her heart was doing. She died a year after I was born.
