Mosque Near Ground Zero May Not Get Built After All

Because for me personally, I just don't agree with it. I think they can find somewhere else to build it. What I'm wondering is why it has to be RIGHT there near ground zero. They KNOW it upsets people, upsets families who lost loved ones there that day...I just find it insensitive. There are so many religions through the ages who have made a not so great impact, doesnt mean I agree with them either to build Churches or Temples or whatever near the "damage zone."

So the solution is to punish the Islam followers for the terrorist acts they didn't commit?

Yeah... that makes sense. :rme:

I'm not saying NOT to build a mosque at all...I'm saying why does it have to be THERE?

Because they chose to put it there.

Well no kidding! I figured out that much on my own :D Look we're going to get nowhere. I don't agree for the Mosque to be so close to Ground Zero...you seem to be ok with it. No big deal...moving on!

No problem.

I thought they wanted to build a whole new center near ground zero...unless I read that wrong.

Yea I looked up the Shinto shrines just now...I guess they have an American Flag flying on it...weird in my opinion :hmm:

I wasn't talking about Americans dying over there, I thought it to be insensitive to bomb the place and then set up a shrine :eek3:

Well looks like I have to go back and do more reading, my arguement came from the News, a history buff friend and my brother-in-law who was in the Army. I learned something today, thanks for the help Jiro :ty:

But in the end my answer is still a big hell No to building a mosque there :D

1. They wanted to expand COMMUNITY CENTER that will be open to ALL PUBLIC including non-Muslim people, Christian people, atheists  They are not building a mosque at all.

2. Like I said - they wanted to EXPAND the EXISTING Islamic community center which is near Ground Zero.

What people didn't know -
1. WTC had prayer room for Muslim people. Muslim people died too.
2. there is a strip club and sex toy stores just a few blocks from Ground Zero
3. The builder of this whole thing is a moderate Muslim... which means he stands for something that extremists/Talibans/Osama bin Laden hated.

Why? Is it just because of some terrorist acts committed by religious extremists who abused the religion of Islam?

Might as well ban any churches from the town of Salem, Massachusetts due to the history of the witch hunt.

yea and Tim McVeigh was a Christian who blew up Oklahoma FBI Building. Let's ban churches near that site even though churches were recently built near it :dunno:

Yeah, and the Salvation Army Thrift Stores! Curse them to hell!

what's upsetting here is the introverted racism and Islamophobia being brought out from us and yet.... we still say we're a country of tolerance :dunno:

:hmm: I don't know if I'd consider me racist or even Islamphobic. (I know you are arn't saying me personally) But how much "tolerance" do we put up with? With the Underwear bomber and everything. I guess my brother-in-law's time in the Army made me look at things differently...he hates Muslims (2 tours in Iraq). I don't hate them, and Im not even saying "they can't build a Mosque in America"..I'm saying they can choose to build it somewhere else, but they are choosing not to. They want it right there next to Ground Zero and claim puzzlement that a lot of Americans are offended by it.

What's your view Jiro? Do you mind if they build the Mosque at Ground Zero?

Yea James hates Muslims. A lot of soldiers who came back from Iraq had the same feelings. Not ALL but a lot. He says not at all, I say put the Mosque somewhere not near Ground Zero.

ah it's typical misplaced anger. he should be hating the ENEMIES (regardless of nationality and religion), not people. if he was a traveler in that country, he'd most likely see it much differently. It's typical for soldiers to have a misplaced anger toward certain people due to combination of factors - overstayed tour (via Stop Loss Order), death of his comrades, so on...

I know this because my friends have fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. They do not hate Muslim people. I also know because I read tons of motorcycle journals. There's a very detailed journal that documented a lot of travels in Middle East. The European couples had an accident and the locals went above and beyond to help them out.... for free. food, home, repair, etc. Dozens of other motorcycle journals said same about these wonderful people.

You saying there will not be a mosque in this center?

2. Like I said - they wanted to EXPAND the EXISTING Islamic community center which is near Ground Zero.

Burlington Coat Factory was a Muslim community center......interesting

What people didn't know -
1. WTC had prayer room for Muslim people. Muslim people died too.

*shrug*

2. there is a strip club and sex toy stores just a few blocks from Ground Zero

Was Ron Jeremy involved in 9/11 too?

3. The builder of this whole thing is a moderate Muslim... which means he stands for something that extremists/Talibans/Osama bin Laden hated.

You mean the the builder who wants Sharia law here in the US?

You saying there will not be a mosque in this center?
99% of it is a community center. 1% of it will probably have a prayer room. There's a Muslim prayer room at Pentagon too... what's the problem?

Burlington Coat Factory was a Muslim community center......interesting
right... this proposal was to expand it.

Was Ron Jeremy involved in 9/11 too?
wouldn't be surprised if he had visited the porn store or strip club there ;)

You mean the the builder who wants Sharia law here in the US?
moderate Muslim = Muslim-American. a modern Muslim. the one that doesn't require you to grow a beard or a woman to wear full-body coverage. In other word - a "Western-influenced" Islamic religion or modern Islam.

Are you sure about that %????

right... this proposal was to expand it.

:hmm: Must be very different from the BCF's in Texas......never seen a mosque in one.

wouldn't be surprised if he had visited the porn store or strip club there ;)

I doubt that qualifies as terrorism.....although it is close

Supporting Sharia law hardly seems Western influenced or Moderate

Are you sure about that %????
no. As far as I'm concerned - the proposed plan was to expand a community center.... not to build a mosque.

:hmm: Must be very different from the BCF's in Texas......never seen a mosque in one.
yea there you go. unfortunately - many people think they're building a shrine or mosque :dunno:

I doubt that qualifies as terrorism.....although it is close
:aw:

how did Sharia Law come into this picture?

yea and Tim McVeigh was a Christian who blew up Oklahoma FBI Building. Let's ban churches near that site even though churches were recently built near it :dunno:
Was McVeigh truly a born-again Christian believer? Did he say he blew up the building and killed the people as a Christian belief? Did he commit the act because he thought he was killing mostly non-Christians or destroying an anti-Christian symbol? Did Christians condemn or support his actions? I thought he belonged to the Christian Identity Movement; did they build a Christian Identity Movement center near the Oklahoma City site after?
