An unemployed Bosnian performed kidney stone surgery on himself because he did not have any money to pay medical bills.
Emir Javoras, 29, from Javor, used a razor blade and needle to remove the stones, news agency Fena reported.

Javoras said: "I woke up in the middle of the night in terrible pain, but I couldn't ask doctors to do anything about it because I am poor, have no money and no health insurance. I noticed my genitals had swollen and the pain was enormous.

"The stones had passed out of my kidney and had got stuck in my urinary tract. I cut the skin under my testicles and with the help of a sterilized needle I managed to dig out three stones."

Doctors in the nearby town of Zenica said they were shocked someone had managed to perform such an operation by themselves, and cleaned and restitched the wound for free.

YIKES!!!! Does this mean he did it without any painkillers while doing the surgery??

This story reminded me of another article about a pregnant woman doing a c-section by herself because it was too far away to go to a doctor....only thing is, she drank some liquor to kill the pain.
 
Well, I would assume the pain of cutting himself up is minimal as opposed to leaving it in. I would also assume that it feels a LOT better doing that than trying to spit em stones out.
 
i've read somewhere else that
a doctor even operate his own heart himself
which actually succeeded and then he became
famous because of this.

Holy shit! This country can make you very crazy because of our govermenmt is. I suggest yall watch the movie "JOHN Q" Its about a father who is fighting for his sons life because he had heart trouble and doctors said he needs a new heart or he might die. But the hospital people keep giving him a runaround to keep his son from getting treatment by dening his son put on the donors list. So he went to extremes and took the hospital people hostage to make the hospital put him on the donors list. Our health care system is so screwed up and its those people in washington wont fix the problems. Why cant we have a health care system like canada has? Canada has a free health care for all canadians. Ever wonder why seniors are crossing the border getting cheaper prescription drugs? And this old guy says now the goverment wants to stop seniors from crossing the border to get cheaper drug prescriptions. So what? Go arrest me!! put me in jail let the goverment pay for my drug prescriptions.See you wonder why democrats lost the election in senate and the house. And the worse democrat is senator tom dashile. Im glad south dakotans finaly realize they had enough of this guy. Now if only the people of massachusetts and californians would follow the people of south dakota examples we might have a better health care system and a better america.

South Dakota?!? No way! I am SO glad that California didn't follow their poor system. If we need the ideal to follow for our healthcare system then follow Sweden or Holland's. It is far perfect for poor to rich people.

He is original Rambo! It amazed me how he can do that to himself. I can understand that his life is 'sort of' in danger due to that. He have no choice but act upon to save his life.

Just wanted to make sure that you know this article was about a man that lived in Bosnia. Not the United States.
 
Dang...I don't think I'd be able to bear doing such a feat on myself if I were in so much pain...probably do something else. :P
