Well, Eternity. He is late deafened, so he is trying to find schools to help him get along in the world. So, he cares very much for the info he is seeking. That's why some of us are trying to offer what info we can.

Oops - excuse me - I'm using my wife's laptop. That was my post. We do not necessarily share the same opinions about the AG Bell Association.

Wait...you looking for speechreading classes or auditory-verbal therapy resources?

Ravensteve: I don't if this would help you, but you might want to look into it. When I was starting out with my CI, I joined a group called ALDA (Association of Late Deafened Adults). We had guest speakers and also picked up information on some of the resources out there. There is an ALDA (Suncoast) group in Largo, Florida. I do not know if this is your area. I found it in www.alda.org/
In my group, most of the members didn't know sign language or lip reading. They were able to go for the training in my area.

Im looking for how to lip read? Cause i can still talk beautifuly but i cant hear. If i learn to lip read i can enjoy talking to people again.

Good luck, Ravensteve, with lipreading lessons.

I hope it'll work for you. It's important to persevere and don't give up. :thumb:

I dont know Florida but you can contact Alexander Graham Bell Association for further information.

Since Im an excellent lipreader, I wanted to make sure that you are aware that even a proficient lipreader only catch less than 50 percent of what is being said. You have to be very quick and good at putting together words to grasp the concept of what is being said. It is time consuming/draining but you seem to be determined to learn lipreading.

English is the most difficult language of all to lipread in. Imagine you are at a resturant and you look at the waiters lips. You think he is asking you if you want a pear. You say yes. Then in a few minutes, the waiter brings you a beer.

What do you do?

Examples of how many words look alike on lips in English:

Beer
Bear
Bare
Peer
Pare
Pear
Mere
Mare

On top of all, you need to be very PATIENT and have a great sense of humor so you can laugh it off if you happen to misunderstand someone because you will find yourself misunderstanding others more than you care to admit.

Best of luck

Your'e right Meg,

Even through I am an excellent lipreader too, I do have some trouble understanding a few myself. I do get confused with the letters M, P, and B because when someone tried to tell me those letters that begins with what I mention above their lips are just the same. Never mind you already said that LOL I am not wide awake yet.
