Toledo boy, 9, killed by shotgun blast

A 9-year-old North Toledo boy was killed yesterday when he was shot in the head with a sawed-off shotgun as he and other boys played with the gun in a home on F Street.
Jejuan Jordan, whose address was given as 3312 East Manhattan Blvd., was pronounced dead about 3:45 p.m., said Robert Hannon, an investigator with the Lucas County coroner's office.

No adults were home, Mr. Hannon said. Police questioned the boy's companions at the Safety Building.

Later, Dorothy Irish, 53, who lives in the F Street home, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Her son fired the shotgun, police said.

She was being held in the Lucas County jail pending a court appearance.

The boys found the weapon in the house and were playing with it in an upstairs bedroom when the shooting occurred, police said.

"It was a little after 3:30 p.m. My brother screamed that he had just heard a shotgun go off and came outside to see what was going on," said neighbor Patricia Flores.

Mr. Hannon said the gun was 12 3/4 inches long without a stock.

it's out my heart for his family who lose son who died recently yesterday by accident play gunshot. Some parent who have kids pls watch out for next door and ask parent to make sure check if gun is hide somewhere so kids will not know where is. It's more safe for kids stay away from house.. If kids who want play enjoy good time like playground that easy more safe than house. so I will find out some more newspaper tonite and will more post in here..

awwwwww...My heart goes out for this 9 years old boy family....

That is another reason why I dislike guns!....

Whoa, damn... this sucks! This is bad! This is what you get for leaving an illegal sawed-off shotgun laying around!

True i agree with you Angle that why I want see all children need be protect and stay away from this one

Why ?
American is allowed everyones can use guns... What makes them feel freedom.. not even think twice where is safetly for children???

Canada is by law, must application first if you're good pass or not.. if not pass then u cannot have gun.

when u pass the test and got gun must always reported to police. Whowever owner of gun.. due serial number and bullet size etc etc..

Mostly the stores selling security key for guns safetly..
Canada law not allowed open showing gun on the hang wall or else.. forbit..
Must hide 100% never be found.. only Adult knows handle the responbile.

Im truly sorry about child passed away due found the gun easy found some spot. Obvouis Parent aren't responbile to handle the gun hide properly places.

My deepest sorrrow for their families who lost their love ones..

Let u know that not everyone are allowed to use guns in USA. Anyone want guns then must be 18 or older and make sure no FELONY on the criminal record. That's federal laws.

Some people can get guns from others like stole. black market, or sell it on the street.

Not be surprised about his parent is charged with manslaugther. That's sadly.

OMG -- thats awful!!!!!

Lasza is right -- anyone with a felony record is not allowed to possess any firearms -- USA has a problem with the black market with firearms both legal and illegal types of firearms and selling off the stolen guns *smh*

what i dont get is WHY is the MOM charged with the murder when it was her SON that pulled the trigger -- id think it would make more sense if the mom is charged with keeping a unregistered firearm and not locked in a storage and unloaded (with ammo stored in another part of the house locked up as well) while the son be charged with involuntary manslaughter due to him being involved and the one that had pulled the trigger -- the laws of Canada is quite different from here in the USA -- i find that interesting

Actually, In American U must be 18-Older to own a gun and they check to see if u have any criminal records before they let you buy a gun...It's a Federal Laws and in my hometown where I live each householder who owns a gun or hunting shotguns have to have a lock with key for safetly, if the child get her/his hand on a load gun then the parents will be charge of the crime...Some parents are just not responablity enough to keep their guns out of the reach of their children...

And Unfortunately, Some young children or adults will buy guns off the streets.. and sell them to another child or an adults...

I think it makes sense why the mother is charged due to one reason and one reason only, leaving the gun unattended and allowing endangerment to a innocent child, and its obvious that the mother or father had told thier child not to touch the gun BUT, child did so, and so the mother is responisble for allowing it to happen, i support the arrest cuz even tho the son fired the shot, the mother is still responisble, it was registared (sp) in the adult's name, they are totally responsible for the caretaking of the gun and putting it in a safe place but i think the charge should also be added for child endangerment charges too. HOWEVER< the son should also be arrested as well for firing the gun even tho it was an accident, it's still NO excuse for him to handle the gun so both should pay the consquences, and ofc who ever was there at the home ( mother or father) will be arrested to teach the mother and father that thier irresponsiblity will not go unnoticed and they are paying the consquences for thier actions in not keeping thier children safe in all aspect.

OMG! :jaw: i cant believe to heard abt that lil boy!!!! i am sure that he is with god in heaven! sigh.. i cant believe that mom didnt hide the gun or put in safe place so kids cant touch this gun!!! that why i HATE gun!!! i dont trust the gun around in the house !!! but if have reason that is ok for me... sigh..

Sometime, I do believe about some laws are unfair. Just say USA's freedom fool on us.

I am very Sorry what happened to that Nine Years Old Boy...

Parents have to learn to keep guns out of reach away from the Children hidden spot that Children do not enter.. But Parents can be NonResponisble

I remembered that Police Officers were giving out Free Gun Locks Safely?

Wondering If they are Still doing that?
