Toledo boy, 9, killed by shotgun blast
A 9-year-old North Toledo boy was killed yesterday when he was shot in the head with a sawed-off shotgun as he and other boys played with the gun in a home on F Street.
Jejuan Jordan, whose address was given as 3312 East Manhattan Blvd., was pronounced dead about 3:45 p.m., said Robert Hannon, an investigator with the Lucas County coroner's office.
No adults were home, Mr. Hannon said. Police questioned the boy's companions at the Safety Building.
Later, Dorothy Irish, 53, who lives in the F Street home, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Her son fired the shotgun, police said.
She was being held in the Lucas County jail pending a court appearance.
The boys found the weapon in the house and were playing with it in an upstairs bedroom when the shooting occurred, police said.
"It was a little after 3:30 p.m. My brother screamed that he had just heard a shotgun go off and came outside to see what was going on," said neighbor Patricia Flores.
Mr. Hannon said the gun was 12 3/4 inches long without a stock.
