Last night, I was watering plants in my front yard. Suddenly, I saw a yucky tennis ball roll past my feet. I looked over my shoulder, and there was a happy, handsome black Lab. I picked the ball (it was nasty; pieces were missing, and it was covered in dog slobber). I said, "sit", and the dog sat. I threw the ball, and he brought it back. I said, "drop", and he dropped the ball. We did this several times. Finally, I said, "We need to find your family." So I walked across the street, and down a few houses to where some kids were playing outside. I asked if it was their dog, or if they knew who's it was. Nope, no one knew anything.

So, I put the dog in my backyard, made a big sign for out front, and started asking around the neighborhood. No one knew anything. I drove around further. Nothing. We called the local ASPCA and animal control to report that we found the dog, and to find out if anyone reported one missing. No reports.

This morning, I opened the hatch of my Jeep and said "up", and the dog hopped in. I told him, "sit", "stay", and he did. He rode in my car perfectly, just sat in the back, quietly looking out the window. (We brought his nasty ball with him, and WHEW!, does my car stink now.) I took him to the ASPCA to get scanned for a microchip. Nothing. So I filled out some paper work, and took him home. He didn't like the shelter, and I didn't want to leave him there. They have my phone number, so if someone is looking for him they can call me.

I have to go to the store soon and buy some dog food and a collar. I hope his family finds him soon. I love Labs (used to have a couple) but we can't keep a dog now. Besides, his family needs him. He is well-behaved, and obedience trained (expect he didn't obey the "don't roam" command, ha, ha).

This is the third animal in three weeks that has popped up in my yard for rescue. The critters must have some kind of "network" about us. :hmm:

awww!!!! You are an animal lover magnet!!!! lol..

The dog is adorable and how would anyone not be looking for it.. maybe you should put the request on a local radio station to broadcast it.. but one thing you may get tons of people saying it's their dog.. just find a spot or something on the dog if they know before telling you.. then you know it's their dog...

Good luck with it... I love to have a chocolate lab and tan one.. two of them please lol..

I do have to be careful if people say it's their pet. Same with the rabbit we found last week. We didn't advertise the color, so we could question people who called. The problem with a black Lab is there are no markings. But I can test them about other things (neutered or not, name, what's his favorite toy, etc.).

definately... if nothing matches... u can keep the dog unless the dog is returned to owner

That's my dog! Wow, the dog walked all the way from MD right into your yard!

JK..but I sure would love to keep the dog. I love labs.

Yea, the animals are gossiping about u so they know where to go when they are lost. LOL!

AWW cute dog you had it  hope owner find this dog soon :).. if no one find this dog then keep it  I guess haha

awww I love those thread here... I love people like you who take care of lost animal.

It was happeend this morning as well. My hubby & I were about leave car park to go shopping mall and spot lost puppy. (mixed breed Long Hair German Shepherd dog). Really cute puppy... He look helpless with dog leash... It look like that he tried to fight to get out from dog leash where the owner put dog outside with dog leash to keep him stay... We stayed to company him and play with him... He licked us... cute puppy... around 15 to 20 minutes... Nobody look for him so we took him to Information Center of Shopping Mall to ask a lady to make loud speaker to call for everyone to hear from the shopping mall radios. A lady take care of puppy and will speak from loud speaker for every 15 minutes. One hour later after that, we finished with our shopping and put foods and drink away to car and then check with Information Center again. Puppy is still there... Information Center said that if nobody pick him up until 4.00 pm then call RSPCA. Suddenly the owner and a little son with red and swollen eyes (cried) were panic when they saw us with puppy and ran to us. A lady explained what happened. The owner explained that they were at car show which next road from Shopping Mall where he parked his car for shopping and want to look short at car show. After car show, he want to check puppy but the puppy are gone... They are panic and look around for over 2 hours (He missed to hear loud speaker of Shopping Mall, that´s time he was at car show) until he heard from loud speaker then go to Information Center. A lady said that she did speak to loud speaker every 15 minutes... and did not hear the loud speaker and want to do something more than just thank us for take care of their puppy. We told them to dont worry because we enjoy ourselves to company their puppy and ask them what is his name... Freddy... My hubby gave them friendly tip to not leave puppy alone with leash too long... They are agree and very happy and relieved.... :)

Reba, would you keep him if nobody come to pick him up?

That lab dog is cute. It looks a puppy to me. Keep him or her.

did you check if there's a number branded inside their mouth?? is it a boy or girl?? that's something you can know for sure before giving it back.. smile..

Wow, animals must love your yard! :) Sounds like that black lab dog is really good dog. Hopefully the owner would find their dog soon.

Oh cute! Animals sure love ya! I hope the owner claim that cute friendly lab soon! :)

No tats.

Neutered male. (That's one of the questions we will ask if any one calls.)

Yes, I think my yard is too enjoyable; the animals don't want to leave!

This morning, we saw the dog sleeping on one of our outdoor chaise lounges (nice thick cushion) on the deck. Later, he was lying on the grass, in the shade.

A little while ago, he was playing in the lawn sprinkler, getting all wet.

Hubby and I take turns tossing the ball for him.

He is a very good dog but it's not fair for us to keep him.

I hope the dog is found by the owner. That dog is cute though. ;)

That's sweet.

Don't take in too many animals though.
Seriously, I'm not trying! I don't invite them; they just show up.

I'm not counting the black snake, squirrels, possum, racoon, and various lizards that also live in our yard. :)

These are the Labs we had for many years, until they died. On the left is "Bear" (also called "Manly"), holding a ball in his mouth, and his mommy, "Kim" on the right. Our doggie visitor reminds me of Bear when he was young.
