What is it about this forum?

I've seen it in other forums, but the extremes the intolerance reaches around here is of a rare quality I've seen in very few forums over my years on the Internet. I suppose part of it is the fact that this site attracts people from SO many walks of life, unlike some of the more specialized sites I'm used to--but that still doesn't mean it ought to be a community norm.

It's been very saddening to watch the bickering around here, between the various groups of people for causes ranging all the way from a person's language preferences to being on opposite sides of the aisle politically. And one of the most mindblowing ones has been watching the arguments among Christians around here--some of whom really aren't that far apart from each other and are really splitting hairs more than anything. In some ways that aspect is particularly ugly because Christians are supposed to be like siblings to each other...and few fights are worse than family feuds.

I don't know what can be done about this other than bringing the problem to light WITHOUT placing blame on anybody. I don't know enough about what's gone on before I got here and even if I did, I think the problem looks more widespread, more systemic than that. I want only to suggest that each of us look at ourselves to try to figure out what we are each doing that could be making it worse, and think what we could do to make it better. I'm not letting myself off the hook either...I will make an effort not to stir things up too much if I can avoid it. ;)

Yes, that's very true and I am not very happy with many people on this forum. I always am interested in the Spiritual section. Especially the worst part was a picture of Jesus with his middle finger - someone who was so awful...this is the worst one that I ever had seen in my life. Really sad! Yes, I agree with you.

Thank you for your post.

Yes and I have been very patient and suffering through the worst of it. I have never seen anything like this before either on another forums. This really is a shock. I never excepted to be in this position and normally there is good banter back and forth on another forums but for some reason here really has been a trying time especially with Christmas that close and Christmas means the Celebration of Jesus Christ, the birth and his ministry life and miracles and witnessing , salvation and message of love and admonishment as well as on how to live for Him , his prophetic messages of warnings and Jesus Christ's words of wisdom. We would do very well to take a mintune or longer of a silence like the saying goes..... "A moment of silence".... I think we all need to take much more longer in our meditation on what Jesus Christ meant and as well as read about the story of Jesus Christ's birth and what it meant for the whole world. Jesus Christ really is a gift to all of us. Merry Christmas :)

Momoftwo--I didn't see that particular post and I don't think I care to, from the description. I'm also interested in the spiritual section and it's really shocking to watch what it's turned into. I was kind of hoping for tamer chat...maybe chat about the blessings people have received, especially in this holiday season, or talk about the Chronicles of Narnia considering the movie is out, a little Christmas cheer, or some substantive comparisons between religions (which I've seen accomplished successfully, surprisingly enough on a forum for a metal band). Sad to see all the arguing. :(

I think people need to read this post before they even comment any further in the forums.

Heath and Rose Immortal,

I know!! I couldn't believe to see like this forum. This is a lot worse than DeafNotes.

Momoftwo

*sigh* Momoftwo, You need to stop fingering pointing others, Look at yourself there, You're no better than anyone else or me. We all share the same mistakes. Why do I get a feeling that it's always someone else's fault and not yours or Heath's? :|

Rose, I understand where you are coming from, I'll take part of the blame. ;)

If you're going to talk about intolerance, you should first be looking at yourselves.

This forum is very well regulated with guidelines and sincere moderators. There is tolerance for open-mindedness but definitely no tolerance for people who come in closed-minded and judgemental of the people already here.

In order to be welcome here, you need to fit in with the established group and win their respect. Telling people that they're gonna burn in hell for their sins or anything of the like isn't going to win you respect.

I respect Christians who follow their own words and teachings. I'm gonna have to say that so far, the people of this thread who have been complaining haven't been following your own rules. You're hypocrites.

Deaf people swear all the time. I'm sorry you're living the kind of sheltered life that makes you believe that deaf people don't swear.

I'm sorry you're offended by a picture of Jesus giving you the middle finger. While I'm not thrilled by it, people do it to get a reaction out of you, and oh, boy, it WORKS. A good Christian wouldn't care, because you'd still love them instead of whining that your savior would say bad things.

:gpost: Exactly! Well said, Dennis. ;)

Let's please be careful that this thread doesn't turn into a blame game right along with some of the others...that's not what I had in mind. :(

Personally, I couldn't care less who started what, and usually unless it's an admin or a moderator taking the action they're entitled to, naming names and pointing the finger just makes the fighting continue on one more cycle.
