So, I'm supposed to sign a story in my ASL class and I kept forgetting to ask my instructor for the sign for "porridge". This wouldn't be that big of an issue, except I'm supposed to do the story tomorrow. Does anyone know a sign for porridge that I can use in my story?

The closest signs for 'porridge' would be the signs for "hot" and then "cereal".

The sign for cereal is ok to use.

The sign for cereal will work in your story.
I've known ASL for 30 yrs, and using a sign that means the same thing is ok.
Good Luck!

When you are storytelling in ASL, you don't always use actual signs for every concept. Storytelling includes mime actions. For example, instead of using one or two signs for "porridge" you would act out or "mime" going to the stove, spooning the porridge from the pot into a bowl, and then tasting a spoonful. Your reaction would show if the spoonful was hot, cold, or just right.
