About 25 million people suffer hearing loss in the United States alone and noise pollution is the number one reason. We're talking about cranking the stereo, using a lawn mower, shooting guns, etc.

Hearing loss isn't just about grandma or grandpa anymore. With the noise exposure nowadays it is becoming a problem for everyone, especially for youngsters who may pay the price when they get older.

Experts say the number of Baby Boomers suffering hearing loss in the next few years could be overwhelming.

Being exposed more than 85 decibels may cause a hearing loss, and it only takes 2 seconds for the damage to occur. Did you know that the sound of a lawn mower is 90 decibels which is as loud as an airplane taking off? Many people don't realize this.

To young people out there: protect your hearing by using ear protection when dealing with noise pollution or you might have to get a hearing aid 20 to 30 years from now.

I'm not surprised about this. Nowadays, people want more noise. It's like everyone says... "Louder is better!" :crazy:
 
My employer allows us to take home hearing protection for work like mowing the lawn or woodworking, etc. They also have "the vault" for annual hearing tests.

Speaking of hearing youngsters, teenagers...when they go to a Rock concert...can you imagine a lot of them rush up to the front near the stage where those heavy-duty amplifiers/speakers blare out loudly...there have been many cases of these youngsters not being able to hear anything for several days after the concert...I sure wonder what's the long term effect would be and if they will lose their hearing gradually and possibly sooner than their counterparts who don't seek out such concerts as these....

Also, there are areas where it's posted in communities where noise ordiances is enforced...largely due to the rising new fad of youngsters rolling in their 'pride and joy' machines with super stereo systems blasting mainly from the trunk of the car....

That happened to me, I was in high school I lost more of my hearing because I used to listen to music every single day after I get home from school with a headphones on, then, I lost my more of my hearing cannot hear as much as I used to hear. Oh well life goes on ;)
