Grumble...Grumble... Dieting? Have Fun Venting!

Well, I'm rather surprised - I went in for weigh-in yesterday after work and I lost THREE pounds! *smh* I'm wondering what I did right - because I know I didnt do anything right, except drink my weight in gallons and gallons of water...*urp*...

Now my dear mother has come back from Kansas after taking care of Grandmother and checking on Grandpa - and brought a box of Russell Stover chocolates...which is RIGHT here at work - for the others to gorge on, and then there's this box of Ben Heggy's chocolates and cashews waiting to be slid into the kitchen right after the other box is empty... that was given to my mom by my father's sister...*smh*

So, here I go again... CHOCOLATE!!!!!! AAAUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

One thing I want to mention about dieting is YOU MUST HAVE WILLPOWER - at least for the first two or three months. I mean, EVERYDAY I would sit there and think, "Man, I just want ONE cookie, or a greasy cheeseburger and I would be happy." I kept telling myself over and over again, that one would turn into two and two would turn into three and so on, so that is what kept me from eating bad. It also helps that I decided on reorganizing my budget to limit my food spending. I was wasting so much money on fast food garbage. Now I save money and eat healthier!

Another thing, once you have been eating good, healthy food for an extended period of time, you will try and eat something that you used to eat like fast food or regular pop, and you won't even want it - you will taste all the grease and be disgusted by it. That's what happened to me. Every Sunday - my fiance and I have what we call "cheat day" where we can eat anything we want. I don't even want greasy fast food! When we go to a restaurant (Sunday is the only day we are allowed to eat out, unless we eat Subway), I order the chicken and steamed vegetables or look at the weight watchers menu!! Isn't that funny? Bad food doesn't appeal to me anymore. Except for cookies. MMMMM. I have chocolate chip cookies every Sunday. Trust me!! Just have willpower!

You also need to have a partner to help back you up when you feel weak and feel like you want to give in and just binge. Binging will get you into trouble! If you have someone to say to you, "No, that is bad for you, you shouldn't eat that right now.." everyday, then you will have even more strength to succeed! If you can't find a partner, then just let everyone around you know that you are on a diet and you want to succeed - tell them to keep you in check and to tell you not to eat the bad stuff you're eating. It will help; it really works! I told everyone around me not to offer me junkfood and they don't. Even if they do offer you junkfood, just tell them "no" before you even think about wanting to eat the junk. That's another thing that helps.

Believe me, it is easier to say than to do, I know this for a fact. But I am telling you, 20 pounds later, you will be so happy that you followed your diet!

Awww, I am DD's girlfriend.... I always told her "Don't" or "No" whenever we went out. She knows and follows what I tell her. On Saturday, I allows her to eat ice cream with me. I feel even with her.... I am gains myself weight because I am UNDERWEIGHT. Many times, she did regular but sometime she get angry or stressed then will EAT more! Last month, she been eating more than I think because she was :pissed: at officers of deaf club. I have to calm her down and now she is doing okay....

Since January to last week, I been overtime 12 hours daily and too tired to eat at home... ofc losing weight. She become worried about me and ask me many things.. to help me out. We do it together.

She page me to tell me good news about WW and I just give her :applause:

Well it's not so bad last night and yesterday...I was able to ignore McDonald's, Taco Bell, Burger King, Steak n Shake, and so forth...although my stomach kept on growling... running about town in my junkheap... and thinking bout food, food and more food!!!

This morning we are on alert for a full-scale drill btw now and 12 noon...although I hope it wont happen before 11 am as Im gonna meet MizzDeaf at Sweet Tomatoes for lunch -

Now my question... have you ever experienced any health problems while being overweight? Many of my friends have told me about heart problems, high blood pressure, diabeies, and so on...the only health problem I have is the 70-year-old knee - that's it. They tell me IMPOSSIBLE, and to go get a check up immediately. I have had so many checkups, I show sethescope freeze marks and needle marks... and still in good health. *rme*

Of course, when I tell them that, they say B.S.... so I just leave them be...and while they're at it, they tell me how much weight theyve lost, how skinny they are, how much better they feel...but when I ask them, they complain about all that ... high blood pressure, high chloestroel, diabetes, etc., etc. and I wonder what are THEY eating??? And WHY WORRY about me if they got more serious health problems??? I dont mind friends helping me out when I'm trying to watch my weight, but they shouldn'tt PUSH me to go see the doctor when I tell them I dont have any health problems and they DO. Thank goodness for those few sensible peoples that know what they're doing!!!!

DD, you know what they say about how it's easier to focus on others' problems rather than their own. Kinda rings true with me. Heh heh. To some degree, I am guilty of that!

I do enjoy hearing everyone's weight loss sucess stories. They motivate me..
And keep on ranting! Rock on. We're all in the same boat.

I've had to recondition myself with better eating habits AND being more discerning with food's nutritional content. I had to find some non-self destructive habit rather than eating for comfort, too. I write. Draw. And vent. Helps me a lot. I don't care too much about counting calories or limiting my carb.. I just eat whatever I feel is sensible for body. No refined sugar (little of it sometimes I think is ok)- but instead use those nutrasweet sugar stuff- Equal or something for my tea, white bread, greasy stuff, white rice... and I avoid beer, since it has a lot of sugar... as much as white bread. Red wine is a good substitution. I try to have meat/veggies combo, and eat 4 times a day in small portions except for breakfast... I love tuna salad. I avoid potatoes, and instead use brown rice or coucous. I once made a cheesecake using ricotta cheese.. worked well :) - I try to have a cup of coffee with breakfast daily, since it.. errr, works well as laxative. LOL. But I think we should be allowed to have a little sinful fun around the holidays. LOL

Ah, it's nice to have friends who are willing to go thru the diet together... and keep an eye on each other!!

I'm kinda on my own lil diet that I made up. I am eating less and healthier. I am running everyday on a treadmill. I've started drinking 6 bottles of water daily. Since Feb. the 15th I have lost 46 pounds. I now weigh 170 lbs. i'm hoping to get down to 150 lbs which is what I weighed in high school. Most of the weight I did gain that I'm losing now is when I got pregnant with my son. Hes almost three months old now, so I'm pretty happy with my progress.
And at 5'10 I'm not really all that heavy.

Congratulations, mlkshkgrl :) Great accomplishment!

I've been dieting since February 21st and I have lost 21 pounds. I weighed 184 pounds according to the scale at work and am down to 163. I feel great! I put on a pair of pants that I haven't been able to fit into for over a year, and THEY FIT!! I'm wearing them right now, and you don't know how good that makes me feel!

My plan?? NO FAST FOOD! I have not had Burger King, Wendy's, McDonald's, Taco Bell, LaRosa's, or any other greasy burger or pizza joint in over two months. I tried to stop drinking pop, but found myself craving it intensely, so I finally switched to Diet pop. I don't have pop everyday either, maybe once every other day or even longer than that. Also, my diet consists of this:

Eggs, Oatmeal with cinnamon, sugar and skim milk, and a glass of juice for breakfast.

Turkey sandwich with mustard on whole grain, 12 grain, or 100% whole wheat bread; strawberries, cantaloupe, or grapes; carrots, cucumbers, or peppers; and juice or diet caffeine free pop for lunch.

Grilled chicken breast, Zatarain's Rice Pilaf, and either corn, green beans, or vegetable medley (carrots, cauliflower and broccoli), for dinner.

And that's that!!

Congrats!!! I know the feeling.. I recently could fit into a pair of pants that I couldn't get into for a few years!

Those sound very delicious. I love oatmeal.. no problem for me. I like cheese.. *sigh* but it'll do as protein. Chicken.. hMMMMM!

You know - Im hoping to get something going here - maybe a daily posting session on where we admit that we're on diets and have to follow a specific food/exercise plan...and the reason why we're doing this and that...

I'll start off here... I'm on Weight Watchers - I have severe arthritis in my right knee (a 70-year-old woman's knee in a middle 40's body) and I have been told quite firmly by both primary provider and orthopedic surgeon to LOSE weight and maybe, just maybe I can put off getting a total knee replacement for at least 10-20 years.

I'm also supposed to do physical therapy exercises every day, twice a day...and also include exercises - I belong to Curves and hope to be able to go back next week... my 1st pet vent - I HATE EXERCISE.

My 2nd pet vent - I LOVE FOOD. I see food, I eat it. Right now, there are donuts in the kitchen where I work...from KRISPY KREME, of all places!!! I have already had two chocolate covered donuts...*sigh*... and I have to write it down in the daily food journal.

My daily affirmation is take each day at a time, 24 hours at a time...but it's hard when I know I must plan out my food consumption every day - stay within the allocated points every day... *sob*

If, if, I dont, I will probably have two total knee replacements within the span of my life of what I have for me - because each will last about 15-20 years. I'm only in my mid-40's for frigging sakes!

So my daily post is what starts this off...

I can tell you one thing - I did LOSE EIGHT POUNDS last week!!!! Today is my weigh-in day...and I know I may have gained at least one pound...because my pants are freakin' tight. *sigh*

Vent!

I know the feeling.. *hugs*good that you do daily affirmations! I also look at the mirror.. and tell myself good stuff about myself.. altho it is very difficult to do so...

It sucks about the possible knee replacements... one big clue for me to lose weight was when i would feel pain in my right knee. Right now no pain... a lot less weight on it (about 45 pounds less, and more to go). You'll reach your goal! You got support here and a great GF who cares about you!

Just remember to give yourself time... and for your body to adjust, too. That was a big lesson for me to learn. I think it's very important to deal with issues that may be preventing us from losing a desired amount of weight, before undertaking it. It comes from within first.. and then the rest is easy, eh? LOL

Also be sure to give yourself good desserts after a meal.. it will HELP control that appetite. I like those sugar free jellos.. and the SBD guideline suggested those sugar free popiscles. Cheese can be nice in an emergency.. for me ;)

How many of you have poor self image? I do, too...

I had been on a roller-coaster or yo-yo diet for a while. :)
Last year, first half of 2004 was great. I have managed to drop 40 pounds to be close to my ideal weight for my ideal body frame.
I have managed to completely cut back soda. I don't like diet soda so I resorted to water daily. Even when eating out, I'd ask for water, not soda, not iced tea, not juices, just plain ol' zero carbs/calories water.
Also, I had a good day metabolism by sleeping regularly - avg from 7 1/2 to 9 hours of sleep, according to medical studies.
I have 3 meals a day, ate lots of fruits during the day and evening. Cut back completely on dessert and sweets.
Have a single plate each meal, don't pile up on a single plate, just small portion of each servings.

All of that helped me a lot. From Dec. 2003/Jan. 2004 to May 2004. I managed to go from 190 to 150. I was happy like hell. I was able to wear my old jeans at size 32. :)
But with personal crisis that I went through affected my emotion and my eating habits so I have gone back up couple of pounds. :(
So, I'm done with the past situation and trying to get back into it.
If I can do what I did last year, then I am gonna try to do that again this year. :)

DD lost 14 lbs since 3 weeks so far. She still figure what to eat right. She still BIG lady as always. I love her! :giggle:

That is great, at least u love who she is! :D Wow, 14 pounds in 3 weeks, that's a good for a start! :D

Had a bit of a time searching for this thread - its been 12 days since the last entry and we've had quite a few posts since then.

Lost another two pounds yesterday, a bit relieved. However, I am kinda cranky and out of sorts - my grandfather's funeral, the whirlwind trip and the overload at work... I havent been able to go to Curves for the last two weeks.

I know that I will be expecting a little visitor very soon...one that I do not look forward to each month! UGH...

Makes me wanna chocolate. Anyone got mini Kisses?

BTW, that makes 16 lbs so far... I think. Ive lost count somewhere and have to look it up in my membership book.

it is easy for me cuz I wud skip eating for 6 hours after eating breakfast that way I don't have to have hunger for anything and yep I walked ALOT since i don't drive at all.. like today I had to walk to few places that i had to get errands done  but it was fun walking that much til I realized time was going too fast blah.. anyways my suggestion just eat alot of fruits and eat less.. I don't eat chocolate that much but I admit I ate 2 chocolate cakes yesterday one was at my boss's farwell party and my sis's honor ceremony but I don't feel like i want to eat chocolate again but I wud eat when i am on PMS that's about it. :D but sure I gained worse when I started to work at drugstore cuz there was junk food around but now I stopped wastin $$ on junk food cuz i don't have any place in my locker (just like p.e locker ugh) so I don't eat that much til I am done with work tho.. :D that way I don't have to keep goin to bathroom and I don't drink too much starbucks coffee oh yes.. don't drink beers or something cuz u will tend to gain weight fast.. trust me ;)

Crazymomma's right. My hubby and I have been on Michael Thurmond 6 week makeover diet for a week this Sunday. Just exactly what Crazymomma has stated about the diet and guess what? Hubby lost 8 pounds and I lost 6 pounds this morning. Our problem was getting take-outs 3 or 4 times a week and plus one frappe a week. We had to stop it. We'll treat ourselves once or once every other week with reasonable sized treat.

I admit, this week has been so hard because my stomach is confused whether if I'm hungry or not. As of today, I'm not as hungry as I was a week ago. I realized I was over-eating before.
