Fire Alarm Smoke

Hey! I have Fire Alarm that has built-in Strobe. One Morning my mother cooking Bacon and she accdient burn all of it. One Alarm(hearing alarm) in other room went off. But not the one with Strobe. Strobe is more closer to Kitchen than other Alarm in room. My mother said that Alarm in other room is way senstive! I wonder why Strobe alarm didn't went off. Suppose Strobe went off too?? Or it normal?
 
sensitivity may be the reason. Another reason is that some smoke/fire alarms sense different things to determine if they will activate. Some activate based on carbon monoxide levels. Some activate from smoke, while others activated from heat. The dectector that went off may activaste from smoke while the other did not because it activates from carbon monoxide. If you read the manual or go on line to look it up, you could probably find out what sets off the alarm.
 
The cheap (hearie) smoke detectors are very sensitive. They go off when cooking is present burn or not. I seen it happen in my moms house. The gentex picks up smoke real good and it did let me know when my ex-wife blew the candles in the living room out. Gentex have 'fast' logic that prevents false alarms.

There is a testing mode on the smoke detector for you to check to see if its working. Give it a try at 3 am (j/k).

It's probably one of those "smart" smoke detectors.

We had a similar problem at RIT years ago. In the old-style dorms, the smoke detectors were outdated and extremely sensitive. I actually set one off by accident cuz I took a hot steamy shower. When I finished with the shower, I opened the bathroom door and the steam came out... ALARM!

Luckily, only the RAs, myself, my ex-girlfriend, and a few other people were still around (my ex-girlfriend was moving to another dorm, so she got to stay a bit longer and everyone had left for the end of the school year). So, I wasn't as badily embarassed as I would be if everyone was still there.

Anyway, they renovated that dorm 6 months later and installed better smoke detectors. This time, they're adjustable through the computer. They had them adjusted higher for those who live on non-smoking floors and lower for those who lived on smoking floor. Now, all are set to higher since the dorms are now all non-smoking. :)
 
I used to live in an apartment where they had a smoke detector in the bathroom, I was smoking a cigarette, and all the sudden the alarm from the smoke detector went off, my ex husband banged on the bathroom door, and I kept saying I'm on the toliet :giggle:....I couldn't even hear a sound coming from the smoke alarm, but him banging on the door was getting louder and LOUDER, so I finally opened the door and say " What? Cant you see I'm on the toliet ", he said the alarm was making beeping noises, so I looked at him and said I'm just smoking a cigarette....Good thing it wasn't the fire department :rofl:


So I suppose that smoke detector was pretty sensitive since the apartment wasn't even on fire...
 
I've seen smoke detectors that go off if someone farts. We have both the el cheapos and a good detector in our house and the cheapies go off a lot sooner.

I guess Gentax is better Alarm. I guess my mom have to deal with (Hearie) alarm. Thank godness that my alarm are all fine. I have that Alarm in hallway downstair near kitchen and other one in my bedroom. Plus I have doorbell for deaf too. That Good engough for a apt??

Maybe... I have same problems at CSDR I were a student at CSDR I quit CSDR two year ago. I remember some students use good smell spray and it set off alarm.. CSDR has one of those senstive alarm.

Yea I remmy those old dorm with the fire alarm. One nite my roommate and I was drunk. We both passed out and there was a fire alarm. We were not notified about it. But then I got restless sleep and decided to sleep on the floor. Then I heard a funny noise and didnt know what it was. I got up and open my dorm door and heard a loud alarm. Crap!!!! I woke my roommate up and we left the building. Boy after we left the room there was no one in the building and found out we were the last ppl to get out. :pissed: at my dorm advisor for not getting us out. There was a real fire below my floor.
