There you go. It is all about context. You appear however, to be focused on the sexual connotation. Strange as well, that you would convert sexual connotation to "nasty."

If I wanted to denigrate, I would call members of the party "blooming idiots."

If it weren't for World of Warcraft, I wouldn't have known about the sexual meaning before I heard about the Tea Party. When I first heard about this in a political context, I was like what does WoW PVP have to do with politics?

When players kill another player's character, some of them will act like they're teabagging the dead character. So you can see why I'd be offended if it were in a WoW context. I do a fair about of PVP so I know about this. I've been tea bagged on my warlock. I don't do it to others.

Teabagging is old. I remember when people used to do it on Counter Strike, Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt and many other games.

Exactly. It is a word...or actually, 2 words, that can be defined in many ways depending upon the context of the discussion.

Interesting. To me "teabagger" the political term stands distinctly apart from "teabagger" the vulgar term. I just asked a couple hearing friends if they have heard of the term "teabagger" and they say yes. I asked them if they knew the vulgar meaning, and they didn't. When I explained it to them, they were offended I would go that far in context, lol.

Exactly. The terms do stand apart. Seems odd that those who support the fringe movement, AKA Tea Baggers, have managed to associate themselves with the sexual connoation simply by drawing so much attention to it in an attempt to show how they are so denigrated and put upon.:P

Nice link, BTW.

If you honestly didn't mean to insult Tea Party members by using the other term, then I'm sorry to imply such. Every other time that I've seen the term used at AD it was used as an insult or denigration, so I thought your post was doing the same thing. If you really didn't mean to insult the Tea Party or connect it to the group that sent the threatening letters, then I misunderstood.

I don't play games, so I don't know about them. So gamers would not consider it an insult to use against the Tea Party movement?

Aplogy accepted.

It's the gamers' equivalent of Vietnam veterans keeping AKs, NVA flags, teeth ears and fingers... if you want to compare the mentality. Or the bomb parts in the Hurt Locker. Well, not really... more comparable to the Pacific islanders' war traditions...

It's sexual in that... the players go from crouch to prone repeatedly, if clicked fast enough, it ends up looking like if they're having sex with an inanimated object. The "inaminated object" is usually the virtual corpse (which disappear from the game after about 5 seconds) of another video-gamer.

I don't think we saw it as an insult, but an as odd coincidence.

Tea bagging on WoW has no political context.

People like to play WoW to escape from stuff so politics are usually not their minds. If you want to get political in the game, all you have to do is say something controversial on trade or guild chat.

Thanks for the link.

So, in your opinion, to call a person or group by that term, you would not consider to be an insult?

Yet, people do use the "teabagger" derision knowing full well of its context or sexual connotation in a political setting or discussion but go the disengenious route of using it under the guise that it wasn't meant to be that. Ergo, "acting innocent." If they were really serious about it in the first place, they wouldn't be using it at all.

So when you see that term used here at AD, it's not an insult against a person or group?

If someone calls me that name, I shouldn't get offended?

Since we're not playing WoW here, would you feel it still has the same meaning?

I don't get offended easily, in the ream of politics, so I am the wrong person to ask.

I thought the posts were against the Tea Party movement but I was wrong. It has nothing to do with them. Apparently, it's not derisive because people aren't using it in a bad way to insult the Tea Party people.

I'm glad they realize that the Tea Party people have nothing to do with the people who sent those letters. They shouldn't have even been included in this thread. That's the most important point that got resolved.

Thanks for the link.

To a group of Hell's Angels? ;)

But seriously, not in discussions of the Tea Party. I seriously doubt I would stick around a person leeringly spewing sexual connotations.. My crowd is better than that, and I have seen one saying "Those teabaggers are gonna spread," and he was a member of the Tea Party as far as I know.
But don't worry, if you are so easily offended by the term, I won't say it, lol.

Yup, I remember about that because I'm heavily PC gamer.

Just better way to read the sentences about consider "tea bagging" as sexual word but outside of political or sexual activity so it isn't.

I don't learn about "tea bagging" until earlier this year and sorry if anyone is offended with this language so I have use for example above.

When in doubt, or if it's a questionable situation, I prefer NOT to offend. It's better to be safe than sorry.
