Dog owner for a dog door issue

There are special dog doors that you can use that only works for dogs. What you do is get a special collar that transmit a signal to the door so that the door opens for the dog, then locks up after the dog walks away.
I've seen that advertised; it seems like a good idea.

We also had a lock for the doggy door but never needed to use it because of the Labs presence. A few times we used it to lock their door to keep them in the yard while we were working on something in the garage. But our male Lab (brave and lovable but not too smart) kept banging his head on the door at full speed, expecting it to open. Not good.

That's what my dog does.. its a jack russell.. and i would close it and *thump* there he was.. he banged his head on the doggy door. I felt pretty bad. :( its the only way to teach him when its closed he shouldn't have to hit it. but he's doing much better now. he'll just go around and stare at me thru the french doors i have in the back.

LOL I am sorry cuz I had to laugh which I need a laugh after I have lost my cat. Thanks.

My dog would growl at anybody who come to my yard, door, driveway anywhere on my property. Then once the person talk to her and show them her their hands then she will be fine only if I am there. If not they wont go near her.

Hi dog owners,

I need your opinion about a dog door. It is for my two small dogs: Jack Russell and a mixed Basenji/Beagle.

Do you have a dog door for your house? What brand it is?

I appreciate it for your feedback. Thanks! :ty:

We have dog door for our dogs and cats, we bought it at pet's mart. It works well so far and we are happy with it. It depend on how much money do u want to spend on the door. U can check it out online and compare them. I do not remember brand name for it unless my husbnad saved the bos somewhere here.

That is a great idea for a small motion detector to let us know that my dogs come in the house. Is it a possible to have a wired motion detector instead of a wireless detector?

The dog collar device is new to me - the door let them in and out with their wireless collar.

I have green wired 4 feet tall fences for my entire backyard. I plan to have a doggy door in the back porch to let my dogs go in and out awhile I'm out all day. I probably won't let them inside my house in case of a raccoon or Jack Russell hunts and eats a dead mole or chipmunk. ugh!
How would a wired detector work? That would mean wiring the dog to the door.

I've seen videos of wireless doggy door openers. They only work when the dog is within a couple feet of the door. When the dog is far away from the door, it doesn't work. That's to prevent burglars from breaking in the house through the doggy door.

For instance, the dog is in the bedroom... the doggy door is locked. The dog wants to go outside. So, it walks towards the doggy door. When the door senses the dog within a couple feet of the door, it will unlock allowing the dog to go outside. When the dog walks away from the door, it will lock again. When the dog is done doing "its business", it will return towards the door. Again, when the door senses the dog within a couple feet... it will unlock the doggy door. :)
