Do you trust the Red Cross?

Judging from the television air time, Red Cross dominates the pleas for cash donations.
Nuts.
I give my cash to a local minister. I recall a big uproar after the Katrina hurricane over misappropriations of funds and property by those within Red Cross, so naturally I steer clear of it.
Maybe I am being too judgmental.
 
I trust them. I guess I can't speak for Red Cross on the national level, but from my experience with the The North Carolina chapter, which is very involved in Haiti, people on all levels spend a lot of time thinking about their money wisely. I volunteer at the Red Cross and I know several people that work there full time.
 
Couple of experiences I've had with the Red Cross lead me to have a lack of faith in it.
 
Unicef and CARE are good organizations if you're considering a donation.
 
I thought the question was only regarding financial decisions. Was it regarding the Red Cross in general?

I cannot speak regarding financial decisions as I know nothing about that.

I was going to donate to CARE but couldn't because I don't have a credit card.

I don't distrust the Red Cross because I have never taken the time to research them... therefore I have no opinion. I still plan to donate money to them.
 
do you have any comprehension of the weight on the shoulder's of the Red Cross in regards to global aid and assistance. With the volume and level of need constantly involved don't you think that there wouldn't be some wrong decisions made or incorrect decisions made by personel. Generalizing it into a organizational wide corruption is not what should be done. If you don't want to donate then don't. Hopefully donating is done out of a person's heart and will to help somebody somewhere and do their own small part in the interest of goodness and kindness.
 
I saw a huge ship with the Red Cross Logo on it getting ready to enmark on a journey to Haiti on TV. I trust them and like HohDougRN said...it is a HUGE organization and it is bound to make errors just like any other organizations.

cool, those are nice links. Although there are dishonest people in every part of the world, there are still many who want to make a difference. That is a good perspective to help make informed decisions on charity
 
I give to Water Missions International. They have a 4-star rating.
 
I am currently writing a book about my experiences during Katrina and Rita's aftermath. Without going into a rant let's just say it will be pretty critical of the Red Cross and FEMA. Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco don't fair to well either.
 
I'll check out that organization, Reba. Water is critical for the developing world.
