Alex mentioned that it will be moved to a new server in 48 hours and it already been 48 hours...so i'm just curious...did we already move even though I didn't notice the change of address or looks of the site or something...? or is Alex still working on it?

It's probably moved. Just because we move doesn't mean the address will change. He only changed servers, nothing else.

give him time he ll announce that we already moved ok?? as u know he's busy and etc.

The new server had to be configured, mainly for security purposes. Other than that, the nameservers for the new server had to be assigned new IP addresses, thus anytime soon AD will be down to propagate. We're talking up to 12 hours of propagation.

I'll see you guys soon again. Have a great weekend!

oooooooooooooh okay well thanks for the info

you have a great weekend too AD man!

Welcome back everyone! The move was successful.

Subdomains will be created later today and given access to those that had them before.

Good day.

Alex,

I thought I should mention something just in case you make this move again.

Next time that you plan for a move, LOCK the board. So there would not be new posts while you're moving the mysql database to the new servers. When all the backups are completed, your domain should be pointing to the new ip on the new server. The old server should be deleted of its content and also a html file created for the purpose of redirecting those visitors (who has late dns server updates for new ips) who still visit the "old" ip address to be redirected to the new server.

Hope that would help you out a bit, Alex.

Now I'm glad everything went as smooth as expected. :D

Thanks for the suggestion, Silence. If I remember correctly, my old phpBB board mentioned not closing the board prior to moving to another server because then I won't be able to log back in, or something like that. I didn't bother to RTFM so therefore I waited til AllDeaf was down over here so I can move the DB. Of course, just because AllDeaf is down on my end doesn't necessarily mean it's down for everyone else. ;)

I apologize for any posts/threads gone before the move, guys. I'm sure I'm forgiven for this slight mistake of mine. ;)

ITs ok alex we all learn from our mistakes at least ur communicating abt it and explaining reasons behind it, as far as others goes i ll not make comments but AD has proven itself a WONDERFUL place to go and hang out in so by all means if u need to make any adjustments by all means do that! AD will stand behind u come what may, from what I HAVE noticed abt AD it's been a great place to feel laid back and considerate ofc we have sme pros and cons here, BUT AD has shown one thing i always considered of thats COMMUNICATION and i respect this place cuz we work together by communicating :)

Thanks for understanding, Javapride.

Well, I didn't appreciate the way phpBB was going. I used to love using their board until they started to invoke certain features that weren't worth it.

vbulletin is known to handle thousands of visitors every hour.

You can login via vbulletin's admin control panel even while the board is locked for general audience. That would prevent those new posts (which ended up missing on the new board).

I am glad that everything else went successfully! :D
