Come on, you know that "Sorry but that's how I was raised." is a horrendous answer from a beauty pageant candidate.
I guess political correctness is more valued than honesty. If she had lied and said that she supported same-sex marriage would that have been more acceptable?

She will not lose her crown, (hopefully) for speaking what she believes in. If she does. Then it just proves the whole beauty pageant is nothing but a bunch of crock...and Political B.S.
Anyone in the pageant, can say what people "WANT" to hear or see. and be crowned living as a puppet or a fake. Like many we have seen in the past.
She simply spoke what she believes in.
Quite unusual for a "popularity contest"
Due to the fact... that she did not answer, what she may think others want to hear.....
She spoke her mind... Regardless.
Disagree, or not.. I respect her for her honesty....![]()

My concern would be that she said "I think I believe". Maybe she needs to think about it a bit more until she is sure of what she believes.![]()

Like is there something wrong with being straight??? no, it is a good thing.
jillio,
I didn't notice this until you quoted it and I had to go back and reread it. Here she is being invited to the Dove Awards for her comment! She thinks . . . that also has to be a first for a woman to do!![]()

But that's exactly what they are.... I mean, respect her for her honesty, fine, but I think it's pretty clear that that's not what they're looking for in pageants. That would be like a politician being totally honest, and then people being surprised when they didn't win. It's a whole system that's basically built on superficiality and pleasing people. If she wants to speak her mind, that's completely up to her, but it's a pretty pointless choice to make if she wants to win any pageants...
It is?
I meet a girl today who is pregnant with her 4th child, she's 26 years old, and is married for the 4th time although she is contemplating in getting a divorce.
Oh yeah--each of her kids have different daddies.
"Sorry but that's how I was raised" is honesty?
"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."
vs
"I personally believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. However, I do realize that people have different viewpoints. That's what is so great about America. People are free to fight for their rights."

However, I kind of agree with Reba. She was asked to state her opinion and she gave it. It's a free country and she's free to believe what she wants. However, it doesn't make this woman right. It just makes her look ignorant in the eyes of others.
Obviously, you didn't before making the bolded remark.![]()
