Did Ms. California's Statement Cause Her to Lose the Crown?

Come on, you know that "Sorry but that's how I was raised." is a horrendous answer from a beauty pageant candidate.

My most recent favorite was the one who talked a circle about the question "Why can't people find geographic sites on a map"

I guess political correctness is more valued than honesty. If she had lied and said that she supported same-sex marriage would that have been more acceptable?

I was thinking the same. I have to consider the source who asked. I am proud of her :)

She will not lose her crown, (hopefully) for speaking what she believes in. If she does. Then it just proves the whole beauty pageant is nothing but a bunch of crock...and Political B.S.

Anyone in the pageant, can say what people "WANT" to hear or see. and be crowned living as a puppet or a fake. Like many we have seen in the past.

She simply spoke what she believes in.

Quite unusual for a "popularity contest"

Due to the fact... that she did not answer, what she may think others want to hear.....

She spoke her mind... Regardless.

Disagree, or not.. I respect her for her honesty.... :)

Do you want her to being dishonesty that make her a political liar? :hmm:

But that's exactly what they are.... I mean, respect her for her honesty, fine, but I think it's pretty clear that that's not what they're looking for in pageants. That would be like a politician being totally honest, and then people being surprised when they didn't win. It's a whole system that's basically built on superficiality and pleasing people. If she wants to speak her mind, that's completely up to her, but it's a pretty pointless choice to make if she wants to win any pageants...

Not exactly sure of how Carrie Prejean's personality is like, but if I recall correctly she is 21 years old?

From my standpoint, there are two things going on. One is the obvious gay fiasco. The second is her intelligence, which I'm gonna question.

The gay remark is no more simply than reality TV for everyone. Hype, hype hype. Feeds the station more viewers, more cash for them. Who can blame when money talks?

Ms. Prejean's response to the challenging question is what I think discredits her from winning the crown, in my own version of auditing of the pageants. An answer like that clearly indicates either she was not thinking correctly at that time, high on something, or most likely cannot give an "intelligent" answer to show that her education is lacking in critical thinking (and replying).

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

These underlined kind of makes me want to assume she has no ability to put herself in the philosophy of why the question was asked and the aftereffects.

If she had thought a little bit more about it, she would have given a politically correct response or taken no sides at all. Thus it would've given her some credibility that she can actually think before replying.

However, reports in California did say something like Perez Hilton commented negatively on her offstage. So this ultimately leads to a suggestion that she lost based on expressing her viewpoints.

Found that tidbit here:

Perez Hilton, not so much. Because Carrie Prejean, Miss California and 1st runner up for Miss USA, has a different opinion on gay marriage than Hilton, he lashed out at her after the show and called her a dumb bitch and, apparently, a c***. I didn't hear him call her that name myself, but that is what the MSNBC host reported.
Carrie Prejean is a Class Act (Wizbang)

So, disqualification based on this is stupid if that's what they're gonna surmise it on.

My concern would be that she said "I think I believe". Maybe she needs to think about it a bit more until she is sure of what she believes.:giggle:

jillio,

I didn't notice this until you quoted it and I had to go back and reread it. Here she is being invited to the Dove Awards for her comment! She thinks . . . that also has to be a first for a woman to do! :laugh2:

Hollywood deson't represented the majority of the American people. Hollywood is too PC. there is only one view of gender, race, sex, class, etc.. the limo liberals are afraid of the truth, but nothing of the truth.
Like is there something wrong with being straight??? no, it is a good thing.

It is?

I meet a girl today who is pregnant with her 4th child, she's 26 years old, and is married for the 4th time although she is contemplating in getting a divorce.

Oh yeah--each of her kids have different daddies.

Obviously, you didn't before making the bolded remark.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

Danged breeders!

"Sorry but that's how I was raised" is honesty?

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

vs

"I personally believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. However, I do realize that people have different viewpoints. That's what is so great about America. People are free to fight for their rights."

Come on, you know that "Sorry but that's how I was raised." is a horrendous answer from a beauty pageant candidate.

This is how I feel. I was raised to be prejudiced and racist. Does that mean that as I got older, I should follow something I know is wrong? We can't help the messages we were given as children, but once we become adults, we have the free will to change our minds about an issue. To say, "Thats how I was raised..." is kinda lame in my opinion. To me, it sounds like she is trying to justify her position by saying it's what she was tought as a child.

However, I kind of agree with Reba. She was asked to state her opinion and she gave it. It's a free country and she's free to believe what she wants. However, it doesn't make this woman right. It just makes her look ignorant in the eyes of others.

I don't think anyone is saying she can't believe what she wants, simply that voicing those beliefs the way she did is not likely to win her many pageants.

Her answer sucked though.

She should have said something like this, "I believe that marriage is a union of a man and a woman and it should stay that way however I believe that gays should be allowed to have a civil union and be given the same rights as married couples have." She'll probably get more respect with that but to call a traditional marriage "opposite marriage" and to say that gays have the freedom to choose is just wrong and that in "my country..." is just self-centered. It is OUR country, not her country.
