A very sad story. :( They really should make carbon monoxide detectors with strobe flashers.
Or dogs.

Also, I learned something new today. I never before heard about anyone leaving their car running without knowing it. But today I read several posts that mention it. Very interesting.
Yeah, it happened to my ex-girlfriend before. She came and visited me at my place and she apparently left her truck running without knowing about it. We found out right after few hours when we were ready to go out for dinner. Good thing that my old place was very safe and lots of neighbor-watchers so no one bother to steal her truck.

My condolences goes out to these vicitms and their relatives/families.

that's what got me wondering too...

why would someone forget to turn their car off like that? even with the keys inside? c'mon...you would still need your keys when you get inside the house, you know?

so, who knows if it was a set up or accident?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a set up anyway.

As the niece of Blair and Anita I find it appalling that people will question the validity of such a tragic and freak accident. I can assure you all that it was not a set up but a mere mistake that took their lives and left a gaping hole in the hearts of their family and friends. Remember before posting in the future, that relatives do see these comments and will be upset by the remarks made by others who have no proof to back up their statements. It upsets me to read this.

Thank you to all who have offered their condolences.

I saw something like this on another forum in a news post. Someone's great granddaughter was looking for info on her grandma being a serial killer, the discussion about that person was some 8 or 9 years ago..

Wow, what a senseless tragedy :(

It certainly is an eyeopener for the deaf...never thought of carbon dioxide alarms. You only hear about fire alarms for the deaf.

Is there actually a CO2 detector for the Deaf? This is such a sad story.

Yea, I know the problem! almost all carbon monoxide manufacturer refused to do anything about visual alert. They simply refused, I have contact many of the detector manufacturer, the response I got was... "We don't have any plan to add this to our line". Sure, there is limited sources where there is flasher, but unrealiable one, they depend on transmitters. I rather have build in flasher to ensure its realiablity. I do have Gentex smoke detector, and actually asked Gentex if they manufacturs the carbon monoxide. The answer is NO, and not planning to do so. If they had one, I can tie them up with my tandem smoke detectors.

Politicans don't give DAMN about this!

BTW, almost happened to me, and my family. Glad I caught it in time!
Im still pissed off at these lazy manufacturers and politicans. Sure, in NYS, they require to have carbon detector installed on EVERY DAMN house sold, and that the flasher isn't require even the buyer's is deaf!

Absolute BS!! Why can they give parking spots to, how do you say, wheelchair. They give this and that to other people who have challenge. But they cannot care to give a CO2 flasher to the Deaf? We are the 3rd largest language spoken in North America. When is *our* voice heard?

Big condolences to the family. Tragic.

I don't need keys to get into my house from my garage. The door is always unlocked but I need to use my remote garage door opener to get into the house. If not, I need to use my house key.

And, I am renowned for leaving the tap water on all the time. I don't hear it. I walk away. Forget it's on. Maybe they had bags to bring into the house and forgot the car was running?

True, it once happened to me at the college. I went into the classroom, then after a couple hours. I came out to the car and I realized that it was still running. I almost freaked out!

I took my two youngest out for dinner and my hearing daughter was driving. She park car just across street from restaurant. We sat and ate and drank for an hour and a half and when we go back to car it was still on! She forget to turn off ignition and forget to take keys. I cannot understand how my car was not stolen but, probably, because we could *see* it and it was Fort Langley.:giggle:

If a young hearing person could leave a car running for a whole dinner why is it so shocking that a Deaf couple could forget to turn the car off? Especially if they were bringing groceries in the house. I do not know if that is what happened but I know it's happened to me. Bring stuff in but forget, very soon, car running.:cool2:
