Comcast-Disney Merger?

Good question Deaf.....I was like WTF Comcast wants to buy Disney lock stock and barrel and it was a surprise bid. $50-66 billion to buy Disney. Wish I had that kind of $ in my pocket.

I have a feeling it is for ABC, ESPN and the other channels on cable TV. If Comcast bought Disney and kept the channels, Comcast wouldn't have to pay a royalty to carry the Disney Group channels. (On the other side Comcast could charge its rivals an arm and a leg to carry the same channels on their systems).

Another is perhaps that Roy Disney wanted to oust Eisner as CEO of Disney and needed Comcast to do the dirty work for him.....interesting theory it could be eh?

Comcast has indicated that they plan to keep all Disney parks if they bought Disney up. I think that is a good move on Comcast's part.

The Comcast-Disney merger will make the AOL-Time Warner merger look like peanuts in comparsion.

I am sure some Disney insiders will grudge at the idea of Comcast-Disney merger.

It'll be nice if Disney was to merge with some other company and the executives including Michael Eisner from Disney will be wiped out!

Here is why I want Disney to be taken by some other corporation in order to change some things around.

Especially the censorship that Disney is so fondly of which has nearly ruined so many movies of their own!

I hope to God that after the merger, Disney would FINALLY start making better, decent movies than to make damn sequels all the damn time!

I dont know for sure but the question lingers.....Will Comcast be able to bring back the original versions of the Censored Disney materials?

It's a long shot considering we are in a "Politically Correct" era.

I would really love to see the Song of the South again for sure.

Exactly!

That's why I'm so sick of how Disney bastardize the filmmakers/artists' famous works by altering them!

I am not saying Comcast may be able to bring them back, but they can't be worse than the current board on Disney, could they?

Hopefully, we'll be able to lift the censorship crap off these masterpieces.

If the Comcast-Disney merger succeeds, and in order to get the originals back in circulation, Comcast/Disney would have to run thru the gauntlet of ACLU, NAACP, anyone who thinks that the originals were inflammatory in the past.

That would be the main reason for The Song of the South disappearing off circulation and hidden deep in Vault Disney. Remember we're living in a time when somebody sues somebody......

and I have to agree with Deaf258 that the Disney sequels werent much good but what's more horrible are the remakes of the Disney original live-action films. "That Darn Cat" the 1965 Hayley Mills original and the 1998 Christina Ricci re-make comes to mind.....I'd rather have the original over the remake but I have to understand that cultural tastes changed over time.

Walt Disney would be really rolling in his grave at the sight of what the Walt Disney Company is currently doing right now. Especially the censorship of contributions of Disney and his staff today.

And... more adult-related movies! I'm talking about cartoons and realistic movies. I want to see something more exciting instead of some of those boring movies. Heh!

I think it is utterly bullcrap, and it is very important that these movies are brought back in their original conditions. If not, then our kids will not learn of how different the world was back then.

History is History, and it is darn important!

Yeah, the totally unnecessary lawsuits, blah.

Suing Disney for making the movie, The Song of the South is like suing the publisher who publishes the history textbooks that contain information on slavery.

That is what is wrong with America today, (No offense intended) they think they can solve all the problems by making lawsuits.

True, many originals are far superior to the remakes. No doubt on that one.

Let's not speak of That Darn Cat remake, easily one of the worst movies. I loved the original.

Freaky Friday, I was surprised to see that it wasn't that bad, they just got lucky. But the first remake was horrible, even though it was just a TV movie. Again, the original was better. :)

Even though it was based on a novel.

The Shaggy Dog, the remake (TV movie)... horrible!

The Parent Trap, they got lucky with it but not as good as the original.

Walt Disney would be really rolling in his grave at the sight of what the Walt Disney Company is currently doing right now. Especially the censorship of contributions of Disney and his staff today.

Oh hell yeah!

Oh, the ol' days... please bring them back!

I hear about it. If Michael Eisner is out the face from Disney Walt. Then there is a good news that Pixar would change mind and stay under for Disney Walt.

It was NEVER released on video in the USA, but it did get released in Europe and it is captioned too.

You can buy them on eBay, but you may need a PAL VCR.

Actually, it was released in America. It was released many years ago... probably in the early 80s or something. I remember seeing a copy at my local video store. I also saw the movie a couple times when I was a kid at my elementary school.

Nope, it was NEVER released on VHS in the USA. You may be referring to "So Dear to My Heart" which was basically the sequel to Song of the South.

If you did see a copy, it's more likely that it was a PAL VHS, not NTSC.

The last theatrical release was back in 1986.

The movie has been released on video and LaserDisc in foreign countries, but never here or the USA. As of today, the movie has been withdrawn worldwide.
