Census shows whites lose US majority among babies

I bet it's because of carelessness and laziness.

Foxrac, you say that you have no issues with race relations, right? Do you think maybe it is because you are white and don't really understand what it is like to be in the minority race? I have been married to a Mexican and now married to a black man. Through them, I see a lot of race relations problems. Just because you don't experience it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I had no problems with race relations growing up and thought it wasn't a big issue in this country. Well, sadly it is and it is usually with white law enforcement or in the corporate world. My ex and my current hubby had to work twice as hard to break the stereotyping and also both were unfairly targeted like getting questioned about what were they doing in certain neigbors or getting questioned about whether they own their vehicles. It does happen.

Nobody likes racist slurs but they exist and that was Banjo's point. He was quoting how some people view Arabs, not himself. That's why he was using quotes.

And I am surprised to learn that you've had many many racist slurs said to your face. What kind of slurs? I'm white too and never heard a racist slur against me ever. Once someone thought I was Jewish during an online Scrabble game and proceede to slur me as if I WERE Jewish and I will spare you the words that were used but if I were to tell someone what WAS said, like Banjo, would be using quotes to show it were their words, not mine.

How is this for a fact, in the NBA (National Basketball Association) a white player who uses a black racist slur (the "n" word) is fined and suspended. Any player that uses a gay slur (the "f" and/or "q" word) is fined and suspended. However, using white racist slur will get nothing. The NBA uses video, along with witness but video is enough, a payoff. They don't give a damn if an expert lip-reader as myself caught the use of the slur on TV and don't take input from the pubic, which I've tried to do.

Banjo is 100% correct that we should and must quote word-for-word as-is but tell that to the MM, which will edit as they please to "protect" themself (bunch of hogwash, if you ask me).

You know, Banjo....I've had many, many racist slurs made to my face. But I've never stooped down to their level and repeated a racial slur back to them. Inasmuch, I would not appreciate for someone calling me a "Lily-white"...and it has racist tones to it, no doubt about it. Same as for someone quoting the *n* word or the *raghead*...

That's all about I've got to say.

You had posted a few jokes that had a racist undertone to them!

That is not true! The immigrants that came here through Ellis Island where not
illegal! My dad family came here from Russia and they where not able leave the Island as one of my dad's brother had an eyes infection , they where send some place until dad's brother got better. My dad's family and mom's family came here legally!

Eh, I was just splitting hairs. What I meant was that any immigrant is technically illegal until the immigrant has papers stamped for approval to gain lawful entry.
I am glad your family immigrated here, since AD would be such a dreary place without you!

Right. I wouldn't stoop to their level and resort to these racial slurs. People here know I'm better than that.

Doesn't make it right? Omitting it doesn't make it right either. I don't think you understand why people use air quotes.

Just like people shouldn't use the word, n-i-g-g-e-r in a quote even though it was said? We have to repeat the offensive terms because that's that we hear sometimes. If we change it, we are not just omitting it, but also changing the impact of these quotes. I'm not afraid to use these terms in quotes or discussions, I don't use these in an offensive manner. I don't call anyone by these names, they are merely used in quotes or to make a point.

Somebody actually said, "These damn ragheads are taking our jobs away" to my face. So why should I sugarcoat and replace the word with something else more... politically correct when in fact that's what was said?

I got in trouble for posting a song Kate Smith use to sign. I use another web site and some guy was saying how much he miss hearing Kate Smith sign 'God Bless America ' the guy said she was America was all about! So I found a racist song she sang and posted it to prove the guy wrong and someone reported me ! I called the guy from the news papers and he realize I was trying to prove a point. I could had gotten banned if the guy did not see what I was doing.

Some people are just too dense to see the big picture you are making.

I agree , I was really lucky the editor of the news paper was smart enough
to see I did not agree with that racist song , that I only posted it to made point !

I saw a documentary of Jane Elliot conducting her Brown Eyes/Blue Eyes workshop in Regina, Saskatchewan. That was very very illuminating for she shows how even white people who think they are not racist are racist. A couple of them even walked out after she treated them the same way natives are treated by talking down to them and treating them like they were stupid or unworthy. Anyone ever seen any films of her workshops?

No, but must be quite interesting.

There are videos but none of them closed captioned. I just looked. What really stood out for me was how the natives were reacting to the white people being insulted, bullied and berated by Jane Elliot. Some of the white people in the workshop were getting very very upset at how Jane Elliot was treating them and even a couple of them got up and walked out. The natives were angry about that because they said they don't get that luxury of getting up and walking out of racism. They deal with it 24/7. The white people were angry because they kept saying "I'm not racist so why are you treating me like I am? How dare you talk to me like this, how dare you belittle me." They completely missed the point of the workshop. then there were other white people who did get the point and they were so ashamed and some broke down in tears and it really opened up dialogue between them and the natives who told their life stories of growing up in mainstreamed boarding schools and how they are treated in modern-day Saskatoon. I just saw a sample of another workshop in an American high school with white and black students and you could see the black students shaking their heads at the white students who were also getting upset with Jane Elliot. She was merciless, she was the biggest racist "B" towards the Blue Eyes and so nice and respectful to the Brown Eyes and it's fascinating to see how white people reacted.

People who are the first to demand an apology for being called racists are often racist themselves. Otherwise, why the defensive tone? If you weren't a racist, then there wouldn't be a need to get so worked up over it, even you were being accused of being one.

You had posted a few jokes that had a racist undertone to them!

Thought I was on your "ignore" list, whatdoyousay/whatdidyousay.....I've apologized at times (several times over the year(s) if the jokes I posted are/have racist undertones... and I was sincere about it....gave me sort of a "wake up call"...and I do try and am still trying not to post anymore.....however, not everyone sees the "racist undertones"....but again, I do apologize to anyone I've offended with my corny/off the wall jokes. ....the only intention I have was to get a few laughs...but NOT at someone's expense when they thought the joke was racist.

I do not go into any other category here at AD and post offensive racist things...if I do, I appreciate being "called out", and my apology is forthcoming to that person. It is and was not my intention to stir up any racist/racial undertones....So, to YOU, if an apology is forthcoming, then you have it from me!
