Can any of you help me on identifying this species?

To me, it look like a cross between a wasp and a bee or something like that. But, can somebody let me know what the exact species this one is?

The thing is, I have NEVER seen anything like this in my backyard in my entire life. They avoid the bee traps too as well. I'm saying that this is not a common one we see around here.

It is a tad big too, and when it flies... it look like the back is a hook or something.

Here's some pictures...

Oh, that's a hornet. We had a bunch of those last year at RIT. I just slap them down then step on them. :thumb:

First, I thought its Evaniid Wasp(female). I checked google.ca and I found a web. I was wrong. Its mud dauber wasp.

Thanks a bunch, this is the best picture I've found that matches what I saw. I really don't see much of these around here, I may had seen them before. But not often.

I guess they do love mud, since we have some mud in the backyard since we are putting into a new patio. :)

Ugh, not a big fan of bees, wasps, hornets.

:hitit: I'm not a BIG fan of bees, wasps and hornets, etc. They scare the bejesus out of me. Same goes for those horrid spiders!

That type of wasp you took pictures of -- look similar to some wasps we have in Australia -- you're right, it's a fairly new type of species, I would say.
I usually always see bumblebees, honey bee, drones, wasp, Yellow Jackets...etc. But that one -- different. :dunno:

Icky.. Hope not they would build a home in your backyard or hard to get rid of it.

It creeped me out when I see the close up picture of wasps, bees or hornest or more..

Ewwww... glad you found the info you needed Banjo!

I am severely allergic to bees/wasps-- and I have a phobia from that too! I hafta carry around a shot to stab my leg with, but I've not been doing that. LOL Bad me. Once stung, never again hopefully. :laugh2:

Wasps at RIT? I better watch out when I go back there. :ugh: Where at RIT are the wasps often found? I didn't recognize the insect in the pictures. :dunno:

RedFox

mud daubers are slightly bigger than wasps and they are not aggressive compared to wasps. The only way to know is their nest. Mud daubers make dried mud nest and wasps make paper like nest.

Yeah, I killed bees and yellow jacket bees with net catcher. I am a bee murderer!! :giggle:
