It's called the Second Amendment.
Americans have the right to hunt game, to protect themselves, to shoot targets, to collect guns, etc.
If we wait until "we are in danger of being invaded by other country", then it is too late. You can't make and distribute guns overnight. People can't learn how to safely and skillfully use guns overnight. It is better to be trained and prepared. Different guns meet different needs.
Fully auto machine guns can't be sold to the general public, so you are worrying about that for nothing.
Just because someone (especially women) wants to be prepared doesn't mean that person becomes a sniper or gunslinger. I have guns and a permit for concealed carry but I don't go looking for trouble. In fact, during the permit training, one of the rules they emphasize is always look for a way to avoid a shoot out confrontation.
Ok I believe we are abusing the 2nd Amendment very much. There are many full-auto guns being on sale around our country unbelievably. There are .50 cal rifles being on sale and I believe there are more than those. CA already ban .50 cal and that is very good.
Do you really need the CAR-15? It is for what? For the protection and that is overrated. If you start shooting inside the house against the invaders and you could hurt someone else at your neighbor because the CAR-15's ammos are high-powered bullets. Therefore, it can punch multi-walls. You only need shotgun or a pistol because it is hardly enough to punch through the double walls. You don't really need semi-auto rifles to scare away the thieves or invaders. One shot is enough to scare them away.
Other points, we have many shooting ranges with rent guns and you can go there, rent the gun, and practice it. I have nothing to against that thing. Shooting range means practicing.
Unbelievably and the bolt actions are very effective during the battle because it is very accurate and long range. If we are talking about the close combat battle and you will never want to be there. You will surely run away from the battle. The shotguns are very effective at the close combat battles. Leave the close combat battles to the professionals to take care of it.
I already have several bolt action rifles (Remington .308,.306, and Winchester. .306, .308) and shotgun (Rem. 2x semi-auto shotgun .12 and Win. double sideway barrel shotgun) and Win. Black powdered rifles, and pistols. I am very happy to own them because I do hunts.
In few years I would buy 1911A (.45 ACP), HK USP (.45 ACP), HK MK23, Beretta 92/96 (9mm), and S&W (.44 mag) pistol. For the rifles Springfield’s M1 grand .306, M21 (.308), Rem. M40A1 (.308) and some custom bolt action rifles (.306s and .338).
Of course, I want some weapons that are overrated, M16A2, M1A Socom (.306), and Ak-74. I don’t think I will buy them anyway. I did fired M16A2, M4, M203, FN280, and SAW at my brother’s military shooting range. They are awesome weapons but unnecessary for home protection really.
