P E O R I A, Ill., June 1, 2004Introducing the R-card — a teenager's ticket to an unchaperoned world of R-rated movies.

At Illinois-based GKC Theatres, which serves 24 cities in the Midwest, kids 17 and under are now able to view R-rated movies without being accompanied by a parent.

Any child can get an R-card, as long as an adult guardian comes to the box office to apply for the card to lessen the chances of a forged signature and pays the $2 fee.

What a great move... not. This is so dumb, this is just going to get many more parents to blame Hollywood for something that they could had prevented in the first place... by not giving them the cards!

Parents are obviously becoming more lax with their children when it come to entertainment. Next thing you know, they'll be giving consent cards for kids to watch porno flicks!

Hmmm, I watched R movies when I was like only 6 or 7 years old. So, I wouldn't know. I don't think that movies are to be blamed, but parents themselves. They should teach and discipline their kids to know what's right and wrong, etc...

it wouldnt make any difference to me -- i watched R rated movies when i was around the same age as Kuifje had mentioned -- i personally dont blame the movie entertainment or the video industry for the behavior of the kids today -- i blame the parents for letting their kids get out of control and doing nothing to rein in their behavior

So this will lead our society to the "V" card that kids can use to bypass the v-chips in :locked: television sets?

Do you mean your parents took you to R-rated movies when you were just little kids?

Yeah, I remember watching Friday the 13th movies with my family, and Howling movies. We went to Drive-In movie all the time. It was one of my favourite times in my childhood.

I dont know if i dont like that or if i do. There were tons of movies I wanted to see on the big screen that were rated R, but I couldnt cause my parents werent there. I saw a lot of R movies when I was younger too.. Arachnaphobia and Candyman when i was 7/8. :dunno:

It's not exactly a good idea. When they issue cards like these for their kids, kids will eventually learn to abuse it and see movies that parents didn't even know about.

Same here kuifje75....

It doesn't really bother me, cause my children can't go to the movies alone anyhow....

rated R movies didn't influence me...anyhow...I saw them when I was young...no biggie, it's just a movie. Smart kids should know that. :P

In this town to where I live has NO theatres. I am not worryin' about anythin' since there's NO X-rated or R-rated or whateva. I've seen many children raisin' around here with their parents and they are awesome children without havin' the influences on them.

Well, not all kids are smart. They have a tendency of blaming others. Even parents blame others too!

You can also take this a step further...

There's some parents who just plain don't care what their kids are doing. They are too smoked up to care, and they expect someone else to take on the responsibilty of raising their kids. Usually, this means that NOBODY is watching the kid, and he or she is out doing what he or she pleases.
