CAUTION: Do not use your social security number. Pick any 6 " made up " numbers and please if you choose National Gaurd or Hawaiian Dept, only 4-5 characters will be used. Thank you, I repeat

DO NOT USE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AT ALL !!!!

Use only " made up " numbers

When any soldier joined the the service they were given an Army Serial Number. The serial number determined your branch of service and the locale in which you were inducted into the Army during WW II.

Enjoy generating your own dog tags online .....

Congraulations the Army Serial Number you created is: 38191145

It's very simple. There's nothing special about this.

  2. National Gaurd (1940)
  3. Draftee(1940)
Area of Induction State
  1. First ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT
  2. Second NY, NJ, DE
  3. Third PA, MD, VA, D.C.
  4. Fourth NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, TN, MS, LA
  5. Fifth OH, WV, IN, KT
  6. Sixth IL, MI, WI
  7. Seventh MO, KN, AR, IA, NB, MN, ND, SD
  8. Eighth TX, OK, CO, NM, AZ

  10. Hawaiian Department Hawaii
#10 is actually #0.
Basically, the website follows this formula ABC. A is what you selected in the first list. B is what you selected in the second list. C is the number you typed in the box on the bottom.

Know what I noticed? They spelled guard wrong. They said "Gaurd".

Yup, we're dealing with smart cookies here, lol.

When I enlisted in the Navy in 1970, the services were converting over from service numbers to Social Security numbers. I had to use both during the conversion period. Now they are all SSN.

The Navy service numbers were different. Mine was a letter, then 6 numbers, then a W at the end. "W" meant "woman".

We had to stencil our service number, AND our SSN, AND our recruit company number on every personal and uniform item in boot camp. Yes, that included "undies", combs, Bibles, and the stuff in my purse. By the time I finished stencilling everything, I had that number memorized for life! :D

You beat me to it Reba. The military did away with NSN numbers during the Vietnam war. The are now (at least when I was in the army) using your SS #. I think they have to change that now due to new laws restricting businesess from using a ss# for account info or anything else.
