I understand. My grandma NEVER drove in her whole life and she passed away in the year of 2000. Well, in some way, it sucks. Because if we need something such as food, etc and my grandma would usually have my aunt walk up to store to get some things they need and sometimes I'd walk with my aunt. Sometimes I wished that my grandma knows how to drive so it will be easier, you know? My aunt have learning disability so she lives with grandma and have been living with her since she was born. So, one of her children like my aunt or uncle will take grandma somewhere she need to go, to bank, shopping, or whatever. It really sucks to depend on people for a ride where you want to go, etc. It is best to be an independent and don't depend on other people for rides. I know you can always call Taxi/Cab or ride in bus that you pay 50 cents or whatever or use card for the bus. Taxi/Cab cost too much than what you are paying for the gas for your own car -- it depends where, for here, it is $4 for one trip in short distance to store for example so you would end up spending $8 for both round trip to store then back home? Compare to car gas, you put $10 worth of gas in car and gas won't be run out in 2 days or 3 days for only few short trips not long trips. So having your own car will save your money than spend on Taxi/Cab, in my opinion. As for bus, it just waste time because you would have to get on different buses (transfer to get on other bus) to get to where you want to go -- it would take, for example, 45 minutes just to get to the store. Drive yourself to store, takes 20 minutes = Different buses (transfers), takes 45 minutes. Which do you prefer? I'd choose "drive yourself" over bus to save time.
You need to overcome the fear of driving. You can do it! My friend was in bad car accident and she was dead for few minutes but doctor and nurses got her back alive. So she is still alive to this day. She refused to drive for about a year as she was too afraid to drive because of bad car accident she had BUT on that day she realizes that she got to face it and have to learn to drive again, to face her fears. She had to because she doesn't want to depend on other people for rides. If she want to have a good life such as going to college, job, family, etc. So she did face and finally overcome it. Of course, it took her some time to get rid of that "fear" feeling while she was driving. She had to be strong and keep driving no matter what. She made it. She is glad that she "force" herself to go back driving and she's still driving to this day.
I believe you have kids, right? It wouldn't be fun if you don't drive because you and your kids doesn't go anywhere since you don't drive and had to depend on your boyfriend or husband to go places, etc? You need to overcome it and learn to drive so that you can take your kids to fun places such as Zoo, Parks, Mall, Shopping, Etc etc. It would suck to be isolated at home all the time and not able to go anywhere you want and wait for your husband to get home so you guys can go somewhere? I don't know if you have buses where you live because not all places that provides busing. Taxi/Cab cost too much, IMO. Oh and plus when your kids start going to school what if one of these days school calls you to let you know that you have to come and pick your child up since your child is sick or something and you can't since you don't drive? You'd have to call Taxi/Cab to get you that you would have to wait for 10-20 minutes then on the way to school to pick your child up then go home? Or what if its an emergency, you know Taxi/Cab isn't emergency transporation they don't come right away like "ambulance" would. You are better off to learn how to drive so that way you can go any places you want, anytime you wish with no worries like having to call Taxi/Cab, leave the house early to stand on sidewalk to wait for the bus to come, or depend on your boyfriend/husband, or friends/family for rides. Its just better to be independent than being dependant on others, you know? I hope you will think about it and be brave to overcome the fear of driving and get driver's license! It's normal to feel scared but you CAN overcome that fear. You will be glad if you did. Of course, it will take time but you CAN do it. Good Luck!
Oh, speaking of afraid to die... well, we all die anyway. So why live in fear? Life is too short so just live in your life and enjoy while you can.
