Angry Parents Suing Calif. Schls. Over Mandatory Gay-Friendly Classes

I agree. Conversion therapy makes people feel guilty for being who they are. It is horrible.

Of course, I will never recommended to any gay children or teenagers to be send to conversion therapy to save their life from suicide or hurt themselves.

Exactly. They are not promoting any one lifestyle over another. They are simply educating as to the variety of family systems that exist in our society today....
Family "systems?"

What happened to "families?"

Good for you and I'm sorry that conversion therapy had such an effect on you.

Conservatism at it's core is "It's all about me" anyhow. Liberals drive the Corollas, Conservatives drive the Escalades.

Political leanings drive car choice
Washington Times - Study: Political leanings drive car choice

Conservatives like to buy American cars and support while liberals like to buy foreign cars. Hmmmm....veddy, veddy interesting....

The Volvo-driving liberal and the redneck in a Chevy pickup are long-held stereotypes. But a map of car ownership - produced by R.L. Polk & Co. - overlaid on the electoral map reveals the surprising extent to which how we vote corresponds with what we drive.

Blue-staters on each coast, from Los Angeles to Seattle and from Boston to the District, are the most likely to drive foreign cars. Domestic brands have their highest levels of market share in the mostly conservative interior of the country.

In some blue states - where a Democrat has won at least three of the last four presidential contests - foreign cars have as much as 60 percent of the market, as measured by vehicle registrations. It is mostly in red states - Republican strongholds - where domestic cars have 74 percent of the market or more.

I guess "buy American" doesn't mean much to some people.

Reba, "family system" is a psychology term. Isn't that correct, Jullio?

Topography and demographic etc play a part. Western states (blue) are mountainous. Foriegn vehicles do well for inclines and curves of mountains.
They are also more dependable. Smaller cars and trucks do well thru mountain curves and steep inclines. Dependability a factor for people. And smaller vehicles do well in large metros of which both coast have many. Zipping thru lanes.
Middle states (red) lot of farming and cold weather in which domestic vehicles do well.
US carmakers went after the big buck SUV gas guzzlers and ignored the small car market. Expecting americans to be loyal and pay out the ass for guzzlers.
And then conservatives (red) want to pretend only political loyalty and patriotism play a part in choosing a vehicle.
Which brings us back to the issue of GOP using God's name in vain, AGAIN.
Don't be swayed by those who use God's name in vain. Pretending to be honest while they use God's name to teach bunk while waving the patriotism flag.

Am guessing there was a "Buy American" lecture in there somewhere. I am not a mechanic. American car in the 80's and 90's were mostly built in Mexico. Toyotas were built in Kentucky, I believe. The other issue I have is the pay scale for the top executives. American CEOs command a much larger salary in comparison to their Japanese counterpart. Because of this, American car makers cut more corners; forsaking quality in the name of profits; remember the Pinto? And Cowpuppy is right; when the American car builders were busy turning out the SUVs, with no concern about the effect it would have on oil prices, the Japanese stayed with what they knew would be their best bet; smaller cars. Another factor to consider: trucks and SUVs have much different safety requirements. Car makers have stricter safety guidelines. The SUVs were not required to meet the same specs. They get by because they win most of the contests with smaller vehicles. I suppose I should provide graphs and links, but screw it. Why bother? I am, despite my repeated MOR assertations, branded a Liberal idiot. I see no point in providing anything.

Yup. When my parents first moved to the farm that they own, they wanted an American made tractor so they went to Deere. The guy who sold them the tractor said it was made in Japan. Nowadays most Deere tractors are made in China.

If they want to keep people's sex lives private "behind closed doors" then why bring it up in elementary school? Kids are perfectly happy in kindergarten without knowing about the sex lives of adults.
AGAIN....this has NOTHING to do with sex. This isn't ....the S&M community yapping about how children NEED to learn about Fun with Whips and Chains.
It's simply about people's relationships with each other. They're basicly saying " some families consist of two men or two women, and you shouldn't use bad words to describe them."
I think a lot of this misunderstanding/opposition comes from extreme conservatives who are mixing up the mentally ill pedophiles of NAMBLA with your everyday average American gay person.

Kindergarten is fine for sex ed. But there is no need to get into explict stuff at this age and I'd save that for junior high. Sex ed for grade school should have simple discussions about gays, child molestors and straight or bisexuals.

elaborate more on your theory as to why it should be tought at that age.

most of the children think the opposite sex are "icky and gross" until they are in the fifth grade, age 10-11, or sixth grade age 11-12. so why start at 6? why can't 6 year old kids, just be kids until they get a few years older?

if they are teaching about bullying, pedophiles and family systems, school systems shouldn't refer to it as sex education, a different name wouldn't freak out as many parents....

for family systems: keep it as simply as everyones family is different, some have male and female, some have female and female, some have male and male families, there are divorced families and families that are not married... sure fine. it doesn't bother me.
not bullying should be tought as well as safety against pedophiles. I'm fine with it.

I think some families should at least get the option, that if they do not want it tought to their child based on their beliefs, they are allowed that option. it should not be manditory or forced.

Your post is true in matters, I live in area that's ultra conservative and most of them own American SUV and trucks, however in LA and Chicago, they are quite equal or more foreign cars in some cases. I believe that Michigan has most American cars due home of American car companies in Detroit metro, also their state is blue.

Reba, "family system" is a psychology term. Isn't that correct, Jullio?

Yes, that is correct. It is a reference to the manner in which each individual member acts on the other individuals, and the family functioning as a whole.

I always viewed it as an anthropology term. (Had a Korean girlfriend who majored in anthropology, well archeology.)

Anthropology uses it as well, but it is basically a psycho-social term as it refers to interpersonal and intrapersonal influence and how that affects the functioning of the whole as well as the individual.
