I may be an fellow Australian here, with the fluent knowledge of American Sign Language after a year long of intense learning. Earlier tonight, I was invited by a friend and an local interpreter to a dinner outing, where I met the Australian man who used to live in Australia flew in with his American family.

The whole family is deaf, and they communicate in ASL (the man knows AUSLAN)and they are beautiful people, I was able to understand the whole communication in-between ASL and AUSLAN, and I experienced myself communicating to them in ASL, and it was like WOW, a deaf American family. Chatting with them and their two beautiful children, they were surprised that I could communicate very well in their language.

I'm deeply humbled by this. I just wanted to share with you all. :cool2:

It was a great experience, although I have been experiencing a lot of similarity via VP but in real person, that experience is very different. :eek3:

You have a great experience of ASL! I had chatted with him in VP. I can understand that he had used ASL. :)

That's great JClarke! It sounds like you had a great time.

Now you know what we Americans are really like!

I'm glad you got the experience, you're a better person for it.

Jiro - I deserved the A+!

Dixie, I have seen american families when I was in USA, ten years ago. My mother have a friend who lives there, but never as a deaf family.

Way to go and getting to know the Deaf American family with both Auslan and ASL. It is really cool that you finally meet someone with his Deaf family. That is great. Yep, you deserve an A+ like Jiro said. I do hope you will meet them more to chat and get to know everyone of the family. :thumb:

Will see them again on the 9th of July, because they are on vacation up north now, and they wil be hosting a ASL film night down here. I am definitely looking forward to it!!

How does it feel to have America's way, culture, tradition and style?

I feel strongly connected into the culture when I use the conversation to their family, it was good feeling and worth the experience. :)

Hey Bro Jake....

That's good to know that you have gain experience from deaf families to learn ASL to become "Fluent" ASL in no time! :thumb:
