The price turned me off big time. This is way too expensive for alldeaf deaf gathering event, unless I find a place to stay instead of staying at a hotel. Do you realize we have to spend for a flight ticket, also? There are thousands of better places to hang out for LOT less.
 
I would ruther stay away from banquet or anything special nights. I would prefer go to Cedar Point over weekend and go home.

I just got the inquiry from a very upscale hotel in Sandusky - they are building an indoor water park, remember that.

Their room rates are $159.00 per night on Wednesday and Thursday, and $179.00 per night on Friday and Saturday, plus additional taxes.

That would come to $676.00 PLUS taxes per room - if 4 sleeps in each room, it would come to $169.00 per person. However, if you do come on Thursday, then it would be $517.00 PLUS taxes per room, and the breakdown would be
$129.25.

Also, remember there will be combo costs -

The hotel is saying that it would be $150.00 for room rental PLUS cost of food and beverage for 40 people - and advising me to move the banquet to Friday night from Saturday night and it would be $200.00 rental, plus the cost of food and beverage for 40 people. If I could guarantee 150 people, we could have the banquet Saturday night at $500.00 for the room rental, since their minimum for Saturday is 100 people.

Now do you see why I go thru a lot of gray hairs?

The hotel also says that for those who reserve rooms there, each guest room would come with 4 water park passes. I do not know if this is good for the whole time we are there, or just for one day.

Let me know - I need to keep searching if this makes you scream.

Remember, I do not want to get stuck with the overhead again.

Another way to do this - we could just get together at the hotel, spend the weekend there, and not worry about a reception or banquet, but instead, break up into groups and go out to dinner.

$676.00 plus taxes per room ??? :jaw:... to be honest that's ALOT of money, and second, how are those who lives so far from Ohio are able to afford this when they have to either buy a flight ticket or spending a lot of money on gas to get to Ohio and then spending more money on a hotel for the weekend, there's just no way you will be able to get more than 100 people to show up with that amount of money being charge per room....I thought we were going to look for a reasonable price for a hotel so that many of us can afford to attend...
 
I think it is too much money for most people. I think most people wouldn't mind staying at a regular priced hotel, go out to eat a few times and go to Cedar Point. I wonder if there's public club nearby that ADers can go and hang out in the evenings? Get there early and hold down a few tables, depending on how many ADers come. Would like to see as many ADers come rather than some holding back from going cuz of high cost.

I did ask for suggestions before and no one has every replied to me except for Bear - and this is what she came up with.

I will continue looking, but remmy it's rather hard for me at this time.

Did you mention that we will have a special entertainment that week? Most hotel usually gave us 25% off if there is any entertainment like Deaf events, wedding, etc...

Is that hotel under Triple A? That would be 10 to 15% off. Give it a try.

How about the camping ground ?
 
I'm checking out the Clarion Inn - a campout sounds good, but I do know quite a few people do not like camping outdoors.

I will keep you updated.

I agree w/PeachyLady... Those ppl who live far from other state which can't afford to buy for flight and hotel so how abt find reasonable good low price for hotel for those ppl who able afford instead high price for hotel? Hope will work out :)
 
I agreed with Angel and Peachlady. How can others can afford a airfare, rental car (if have to), hotel fees, food, spending money...that's way too much. Maybe making a poll like I said in another post (could not edit it, too late dang it)
