So, my trip to florida was greattttt, the plane rides there were no prob..but i got sick b4 i left on sat nite and today i came back home, and you know when your ears pop because of the air pressure cuz ur so high and watnot, well my nose is all stuffed and my sinus's are hurting and when i was on theplane i couldn't hear anything and my ears were like having serious pain like 1-10 on pain scale it was like 16 and my right ear still didn't "pop" and i couldn't hear out of it for 2 hrs after, they both feel still a bit funny..but my right feels alot worse ..it also feels like i have an ear infection kinda but i dont see how that's possible. and my tinnitus is on HIGH pitch mode rite now too:(...anyone know wat to do? my bf thinks i shud go to the clinic to make sure i didn't tear anything in my eardrum cuz when i blow my nose or cough i hear a funny noise...? any suggestions! thanksss

I always buy MENTOS candy bar before flying to avoid the air pressure in my ears.

sounds serious :/. I would say that if you are hurting that bad, you may need to see a doctor...meanwhile take some pain medication...

Try gum, a baby pacifier (for real, not kidding...just don't let anybody catch you with it, lol), yawning on purpose, swallow like crazy...

Sorry this happened to you :(

i cant hear anythings when im planes and i cover my ears but my ears too LOUD! when the planes got land its would says POP!

eat beef jerky, that help for me
make sure that beef is bit dry

so i went to the clinic today and she said i was lucky i didn't rupture both my ear drums and that i have a lot of fluid and that i just have to wait it out:( so i guess it's like i have an ear infection :( she said get some nasal spray and once i'm all cleared out of my nose n sinus my ears shud be ok..she didnt give me any antibiotics tho and they hurt alot:(

Lilitalia, I fully understand what you went through, the pain is absoloutely excrutiating! I have that on some airlines and not others and only when descending. They do say it's from a build up of sinus especially when you have a cold, though I've had it when I didnt think I had sinus or a cold - its pretty frustrating. The doc told me to take sudafed (australian medication) like an antihistamine before the flight and also use a nasal spray. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

It's scary cos it takes a while to settle after you land and you think nothing will be the same. So far it has righted itself with me.. I hope it does with you too lilitalia.

An ear infection?! Have you seen a chiropractor? A chiropractor will show you how to get rid of the ear infection (among many other things) without the medication.

Chewing on something during the flight helps. I've never heard about jerky, but have heard about chewing gum or yawning (this one gets old).

Next time before you fly out, get a pack of G U M! It WORKS for me! I always pack gums before we fly out. I hate my ear pop out. It hurt, I agreed!

You know, they say that you shouldn't go onto a plane if you aren't feeling 100%.

I tried gum when i was on the plane but i guess it didn't do much since i was already sick...and i kno u shouldn't really fly when ur sick..but i had no choice since i had already had one flight cancelled due to weather...

We have sudafed here..maybe i will try that next time. I really wouldn't want to have my ear drum rupture for a 4th time..not pleasant. thanks for all the comments:) My ears still hurt but nothing like it did when the plane was descending..it was horrible! i couldn't hear anything either for like 2 hrs our of my bad ear. i was so scared..i thought the stupid plane made me lose more hearing! i felt so lopsided. i was at customs and was so confused...thank god for lipreading!

Fluids in your ears will do that...and make you dizzy and "out of it."

Hope you get better soon!!!

It happened to me too, I was on a flight from Oklahoma to Massachuets and after I got off, my ears were hurting like hell and I couldn't hear a thing and then when I went to my ex-girlfriend's parent's house and after a few hours, I got very sick with fever and I threw up, it sucked!

Not only that, but your ears may hurt so bad that you can't wear your hearing aids. Oh, did I mention that the sounds that you could hear will be so loud (like putting silverware on the table) you will demand that it be done more quietly. No joke, this happened to me. Any noise hurt my ears and it almost drove me nuts. I'd be in tears and beyond if I had to endure that on a plane!

Ya i havent worn it since i was in florida..i tried to put it on when i was on the plane and that was a huge no go as soon as i turned it on i felt like MAJOR pain so i yanked it out. My ear's still hurt too esp. my right ear which is my bad ear.. I also have a really bad cough and my chest hurts..and that usually means i have bronchitis...soo maybe i will go to the dr 2morrow

Wow interesting to know that many of u deafies actually do have a problem with their ears popping whether descending or not. I usually would suck a hard lolly to help clear or chew gums. I find it worse when the plane is actually taking off rather than landing, Weird!!

Hope u get well soon lilitalia89.
