4 Americans killed by Somali pirates

Blame the victims?

Freedom of the seas is a long-standing principle that nations have defended throughout history. .

No but you are blaming pirates. I am blaming nobody.

It's dragging on because we conducted the war in a weak and confused way (overall). There were some periods and some locations that were conducted with strength, and the troops on the ground are doing what they can within all the constraints that are put on them.

GHB failed.
Clinton failed.
GWB failed.
Obama failed.

what does it mean? we need to butt out and stop bullying people.

The pirates are to blame for their kidnappings, killings, and stealing.

pirates are pirates. people are free to choose to risk their lives or not.

Schmit told CNN that the Adams were aware of the growing danger of piracy in the Indian Ocean, particularly near the Horn of Africa, where the Quest was located at the time of the attack.

While sailing around the world, the Adams were delivering Bibles to hospitals and schools in dangerous locations, Schmit said. "It was their mission in life and nothing was going to deter Scott."

"There are many places in the world where Christian missionaries are facing the possibility of capture and torture and death," Schmit added.

I have a big problem with missionaries go into hot zone where they will most likely get raped/killed/beheaded/tortured. It's stupid to throw your life away unnecessarily in that manner when the situation is fubar. I do not care for "noble calling" but was it necessary for them to put our American soldiers' lives at risk to rescue them if they got captured?

The victims have my sympathy but not that much. I blame nobody but I question the victims' judgment.

What definition are you using for bullying? If it's the dictionary definition, then the USA is not bullying anyone. Do you know of any country that is intimidated or domineered by the USA? No. No other country fears the USA. I think that's obvious.

don't be naive :)

You blame the victims for trying to do good but you don't blame the pirates for doing evil? (You say you blame no one but your description above is blame.)

If that's true, then the world is truly screwed up, possibly beyond hope.

I question victim's judgment, not blame.

Was it necessary for them to throw their lives away in that manner? Was it wise of them to put our American soldiers' lives at risk to rescue them? Was it worth getting killed over what? in the name of noble calling?

I agree. Lord knows how much money they cost us. It irks me to see us paying the cost of having people rescued when it is their stupidity that got them into their jams in the first place.

This turns my blood cold. Isn't the millions of civilian deaths telling you something?

Bullying? United States backed the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia in 2006, just as Somalia was starting to stabilize.

We have refugees here in Canada who are angry at Americans-- one of the people who I eat out with whose family fled Chile after the CIA installed a military dictatorship in 1973. And many more.

Either way, everyone got blood on their hands. What's clear though is the United States cannot function as the only superpower without imploding.

So is it not pirates' fault for doing evil, yes?

That's why it has to be defended with strength.

Camden is a crime-infested town in NJ.... with one of the worst crime rate in USA.

Should we defend it with strength by employing "Gestapo" method? bulldoze it like Israelis to start over?

it's nobody's fault. pirates are just pirates and victims are just victims.

OK then. I just read some another articles a little while ago, it seems nobody give a damn about those victims just because they think those victims are stupid and naive. I read comments did made of fun of them...

Well... never mind what I asked.

Freedom of the seas is an age-old ideal. In this case, if only the government wouldn't be so unwilling....especially local governments....to police it's own shores. If every country with an accessible seashore would work on this, sailing the seas would be safer.

Americans used to travel safely and freely all over the world. People in other countries were afraid to offend much less kidnap or kill Americans because they knew there would be hell to pay for their actions.

Now, Americans are an easy target for every two-bit pirate or land thug. Why? Because they have nothing to fear. They know they can get away with murder (literally).

Now, Americans have to flee countries every time there's unrest, and they have to avoid international waters that are controlled by itinerant lowlifes.

That is not true! Black Americans could not travel freely right here in USA ! Did you forget about the 3 Freedom riders that when down south to during the civil rights movement. One Guy was Black and I believe the other 2 guy were Jewish they killed and the bodies was buried in field or farm.
